Sewn Together: Down the Aisle

November 11th, 2010 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Sewing

Once everyone was successfully herded into the chapel, it was time to get married.

The rehearsal paid off, since everyone floated down the aisle perfectly.

Well, everyone did a good job except for the bride, I should say.

Anxious like none other, I preempted my queue and dragged my dad down the aisle at a near sprint.

The song we chose was an orchestrated version of Final Fantasy VIII - Fragments of Memories.

It starts nice and flowy, and eventually picks up into something of a march (around the 2:40 mark). I was supposed to start walking at the march part.

However, the march didn’t actually start until I was up at the front, grinning stupidly at my almost-husband. Oops.

Mr. Sew later confided his disappointment in my lack of musicality, but secretly I think he was pleased at me rushing to meet him like an obsessed groupie.

Sewn Together: Down the Aisle : wedding honolulu pictures pro pics recap Altar altar

At the altar, Pastor E asked who was giving me away. I know there’s good reason not to like this tradition—as I am certainly not anyone’s property. But here’s how I’ve come to see it: before Mr. Sew came along, the “owners” (after God, of course) of my love, priority and general day-to-day craziness were my immediate family members. They were the first I ran to when I had news, the first I complained to when something was wrong, the first I asked for help with decision making and the first to whom I confided my plans. That person is now Mr. Sew.

So when my father proudly answered, “Her mother and I [give Miss Sew to be married],” I had absolutely no complaints. To me, it speaks to my parents’ willingness to take a backseat to my husband’s needs. My family will always be my family, but now Mr. Sew is my primary family—the one I am most responsible for caring for.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. - Genesis 2:24 KJV

So finally, with a kiss on the cheek from my father, I stepped up to the altar to join my beloved.

And then it was just me

and Mr. Sew

on the verge of becoming husband and wife.

I love that you ran! I appreciate the perspective you have on the giving away and I have to admit that I share it. I can’t even remember if my Priest asked the same question (I was making love eyes at my future husband) but if he did it sets well with me too.

Oh my gosh, I love your recaps. They make me so happy! The pic with your sister looking up at your brother is adorable.

Your “lack of musicality” is so sweet. I’m sure Mr. Sew loved it. The solo shot of you is stunning. You were such a beautiful bride :)

Aww I don’t think I could have waiting for the 2:40 mark either. :D

BTW total win being able to use final fantasy music for your processional!

I love the way you said that - that’s how I’ve been feeling about the “who gives this woman” part. No, I’m not property, but I do appreciate the symbolism of showing how my family is changing through the act of marrying my fiance. And I love those final images of you, Mr. Sew and then the one with the aisle decorations in focus. Gorgeous.

I played your music for Mr. E to guess, it took him about 2 seconds, haha! I really love your perspective on the “giving away” tradition.

Love your posts! That photo of you as you look at mr. sew as you get to the front of the chapel - stunning!
And Sewing, those flowers along the pews and at the front are AMAZING!!! how did they do the hanging things? It’s so stunning!
@Mary - how can you not be interested in recaps?? Isn’t that the whole point of blogging about weddings??? To get to the actual wedding? That is so strange to me!

@Katie they came with the chapel, actually! i was lucky and didn’t have to decorate :) I think they are just silk flowers strung along on something like clear fishing line?

I love your aisle flowers and you look gorgeous! Wow, your brother is tall!!! I noticed it in that picture of him and your sister side by side, but then I also noticed that she is even standing on the altar step. :)

It has been such a joy seeing your wedding come together! I love the outright nerdiness of it all but it’s so gorgeous and elegant at the same time. You and Mr. Sew did an awesome job!

PS - I’m a bay area native as well, so WOOHOO! <3
