I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. My Latest Project - Donut Holders

November 12th, 2010 @ 3:52 pm by Mrs. Hippo

I’ve been in total crafting mode lately. I think it might be the change in weather. As soon as I get off work, all I want to do is get home to my cozy apartment (cozy=small) and work on crafty wedding  things. This is not particularly helpful to my get-in-wedding-shape-by-working-out-after-work plan, but I digress…

My latest project was the containers for our wedding donuts. That’s right, I said it. Wedding donuts, yo! Just in case you don’t remember, let me refresh your appetite:

The company that’s going to be making the hot, fresh, cinnamon-sugar deliciousness at the end of our reception supplies glassine bags for the donuts as part of the package price. Sweet! But…

the bags have the company’s logo on them. Uh. No thank you. So, I started looking for other options that would allow me to personalize the donut bags without costing an arm and a leg. I also didn’t want to spend a ton of time on the project. Let’s be honest…it’s a donut bag. It will become trash within minutes, so I simply wanted it to tie into our color scheme and logo design and be cute. That’s it.

I did a quick online search for glassine bags (those kind of waxy bags that keep grease from seeping through…you know the ones), and found these in our wedding yellow.

Then I picked up some large round labels from LabelOutfitters.com. A little design work and a little bit of time and….

Cute, right? And it was really inexpensive - $9 for 100 bags, $6 for 120 labels, plus shipping costs. I think it was totally worth it, especially since these will serve as our faux favors.

What inexpensive DIY projects have you taken on to personalize your wedding?

Thanks so much, ya’ll!

@Miss2Mrs: It was actually so random! I was doing a search on Yelp! for a place for a rehearsal dinner, and someone had posted about the donut company. Totally random, right? Here’s the company’s website:
http://www.thesnackboxsite.com/ They are based in the Dallas area though.

Are you worried at all about the grease from the donuts seeping through the thin paper?

Super cute :)

@mrs. t: Actually, that’s what the glassine envelopes are for. They are paper on the outside, wax lined on the inside, so the grease doesn’t seep through.

We’re doing donut favors too! It’s in a special flavor because there’s a story behind it.. and I planned on doing bags like this

but it jammed up my printer pretty badly.. so I was going to purchase colored bags + customized stickers like you too! :)

DIY project… we are making cones to hold our candy favors.

The cones are lime green with white polka dots. They’ll have tuelle wrappd chocolates inside them with white ribbon. On the outside of the cone will be a personalized ribbon with our names/wedding date and a sprig of flower in the middle. (hard to explain)

Was just talking to my hubby about this and he said “Why didn’t you think of that? That’s something I would have said yes to.”

I want a donut
