Color Renegade + Color Board

November 12th, 2010 @ 5:13 pm by Mrs. Prairie Dog

I’m not really sure when, historically, weddings became one- or two-color events. I think it’s safe to say that most are, though, since a lot of people have asked me, “What are your wedding colors?”

This is the answer that they get: black, white, silver, gold, muted pink, slate blue, and possibly some spring green and soft yellow.

I gave myself a huge palette because I want to be able to buy what I like.

I’m trying to avoid a “motif” as well. As proven by this post, I’m all over the place. How could I ever choose between my favorite decor elements: birds, trees, flowers, vases, little white lights, candlesticks, and so on, forever? Basically, I’m just doing whatever the crap I want and hoping there is cohesiveness and continuity. It’s where Murphy’s Law meets Crayola, and I’m not looking back now!

For now, here is my first take at compiling the color/feel I like:

These aren’t literal items I am seeking out for my wedding, but I tried to capture the overall feel. So far, I’m liking it. What do you think? Are you broadening your color horizons?

Aw yes, the color palette inspiration aspect of planning - - I sailed in the same boat you’re in. I had 5-6 colors as well. You are gonna LOVE the day when they’re all pulled together. Its way better than anything you can vision, trust me on that :)

I love your inspiration board because it conveys a happy, positive feeling. Who cares if colors don’t really match, if the result is so amazing?

I LOVE your colors. They work SO well together. I had such a narrow-minded view of how many colors could be in a wedding, but you have widened my eyes considerably!

Your palette is beautiful!! I am sooooo happy to see that I’m not the only one. I thought I was indecisive about my colors and kept trying to narrow my 6 down to three, possibly two. But, I will join you and be a color renegade too!!!! How are you doing invitations? Did you include all the colors? Just some? Do you have a picture? That’s the only detail I can’t seem to smooth out yet with all my colors.

@SandyToes: yes! i AM incorporating them all into my invites, but i’m still working on a mock-up of how the invite suite will look (it’s hard!). i’ll PM you when i’m done with them if you want to see the general idea.

@tofuchic: ooh, i’d love to see another bride’s take on the same colors.

@Innamorata.italy: i’m so glad you said that. i was going for “sophisticated but cheerful.” :)

It’s the same for me. Lots of colours: burgundy, pale pale pink, white, silver, gold, and a bit of dark green.

Your wedding is going to be gorgeous, PD!
I think having a variety (or renegade) of colors can bring such a rich texture. Ah, it’s all going to mesh together so well!

Your wedding reminds me of Urban Outfitters. I was just in there and the home section is a clash of different feels but it’s all gorgeous. Love your colors!

I haven’t been around the ‘Bee much in the past few weeks, so I apologize for not saying ‘hello’ and ‘welcome’ much earlier! But I was browsing through my Google Reader and had to stop to tell you that your color palette stopped me in my tracks! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! So elegant and classy.
