The Sweetest Things

November 13th, 2010 @ 11:30 am by Ms. Sloth

One of the first things that I’d decided about the wedding was that my bridesmaid J would be making our dessert. She’s currently in school to be a pastry chef, and while she won’t have graduated by the wedding, she’ll have a full year of school under her belt. Not that it matters; her baked goods were delish even before she started school. Right after asking her to be my bridesmaid, I asked her to be our baker, and she accepted both duties with enthusiasm.

Mr. S is not a dessert person, so he left the decision up to me. I didn’t want a traditional cake, and after falling in love with some cupcakes I found online, I realized that they’d be perfect for our reception.

Aren’t they the cutest things you’ve ever seen?

And then, this past summer, I went to a friend’s wedding where there was a kick-ass dessert buffet. And of course, after I saw it, I wanted it. SO BAD.

But I didn’t want to inconvenience J. She is my bridesmaid, after all, and I didn’t want her to spend the days before the wedding baking her ass off in addition to anything else I might ask her to do. And I didn’t want her to feel obligated to say yes if she really didn’t want to.

I finally worked up the guts to ask her. What was the worst that could happen, right? She’d say she was too busy to make a bunch of desserts, and we’d stick with the cupcakes. But of course, she agreed to it. When I asked her over email if she was 100% sure that it wasn’t too much trouble, she replied, “This is what I’m trying to do with my life! So I’m happy to have the opportunity to actually do it!”

Sounds like a deal to me! We’ll still have those gorgeous cupcakes, along with a whole slew of other baked goodies.

Let’s check out some of J’s creations so far:

I couldn’t be more excited about our dessert spread. And I’m so thrilled that a good friend of mine will be at the helm of the dessert extravaganza.

What kind of dessert will you have at your wedding?

We’ll be having our wedding cake made out of limoncello cake. It’s the fluffiest, lightest cake I’ve ever had, and the marscapone cream they make is delicious!

On top of that, we’ll have a dessert bar ( since some of my family doesn’t really like cake) but I’m not quite sure what all we’ll have. Time to think though, I suppose. :)

We’re having a dessert buffet instead of a wedding cake and my contribution will be pumpkin whoopie pies with spiced buttercream filling. Yum.

Mmmm, these look delicious!
We are thinking of a dessert buffet… I just can’t decide between individual desserts like these, or a variety of pies, cakes, and such.

My mom’s making a center cake for us to cut but instead of tiered cakes, we’re having four different kinds of cupcakes. The only decision we have now is what flavors, and how to have them decorated. Those pics you have look SOOOO TASTY! And a dessert buffet is an awesome idea!

Probably just cake and/or cupcakes. I’m not a big dessert person and FI doesn’t eat sweets.

We’re doing a cake buffet with 4 flavors of homestyle cakes. We may also add brownies to the table as well since my MOH is severely allergic to milk but she has an amazing dairy-free brownie recipe.

I think I just drooled on my keyboard… coffee cake cupcakes!! YUM! I’m hoping to have a dessert bar too. I love, Love, LOVE dessert so it has been hard to pick just a few things for the bar. So far I’m thinking a small two tier cake for the cake cutting, various mini cupcakes, snickerdoodle cookies, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter blossom cookies, brownies, mini lady locks, and shots of cold milk :)

Wonder if the coffee cake cupcake recipe is online somewhere…?

And thumbs up to the Willy Wonka reference!

This post makes it very difficult to resist the post-humiliating-loss baking drive.

At the wedding we will be having: white cake with white buttercream and some sort of fruit filling, orange liqueur flavored cake with chocolate buttercream, kransekake (Norwegian Almond Paste Cake Thing), and whoopie pies (as the favor, using very Lancaster County recipes)

Looks sooo yum, esp the whoopie pies! We’re doing a dessert buffet too…. I’m Greek & FI’s Italian, so we’ll have baklava & other Greek pastries, along with tons of Italian cookies…! So. excited.

we’re doing a dessert buffet too…only I’m making them ALL, myself. Kinda crazy? Yes. However I know baking calms me down…but I’m still scared ****less! There may be a panicked run to Costco the morning of!

But before we were engaged my FI asked me to make these coconut cupcakes I make for our wedding, so I kinda feel like I have to, since its pretty much his ONE request in the whole wedding.
