Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

I know it’s way too early to be thinking about how I’ll wear my hair, but I’ve ever since I uncovered my love for cathedral veils, I can’t help but this about it.

I talked about wanting a side pony (see my vision here), but there’s the issue of the veil, and well, I kind of want a flower, too. That’s way too much going on my head, I know, but I’ve always loved wearing a flower in my hair!

Isn’t it the perfect subtle touch for a garden wedding, too? I know I’ve got to narrow that down all these wants and go with something practical, but what if i did it all?

This bride totally pulled it off (see the veil and flower):

Yes, pretty photos like these are just the reason I want to wear a flower, too!

Check her out! Rocking the laced veil and flower—and gorgeous, no?

There have been some great discussions on the Weddingbee Boards about this topic too, of course, like this one. What do you think, though?

Is a veil and a flower too much?

You can totally make it work! I plan on having a few smaller flowers in my hair along with my cathedral veil. :)

I’m doing both! Side bun/pony + veil. Haven’t worked it out specifically yet but that’s what I want so I’m going to make it work. =)

A flower and veil would look pretty together as long as they compliment eachother and don’t clash. Make sure they enhance the look of the other. If they are competing with each other then I wouldn’t do it. It will definitely be something that you’ll have to try out!

I’m doing veil for the ceremony & flower for the reception also… I think you could wear them together if you wanted though. Especually if you did several smaller flowers + veil.

No, I think both are gorgeous! I will probably do something similar.

I’m definitely wearing both! I’m taking the cathedral veil off after the ceremony, but I may replace it with a birdcage, who knows? Put as many things on your head as you want! :)

I think you can do both, but they need to be proportional to one another. For example, big ass flowers need more modest sized veils, and big long veils need more modest sized flowers.

OH wow, that bride TOTALLY made it work! Gorgeous! I think one point to consider is that her hair is completely up. I think this lets her be able to wear both without it being overpowering. I think you can totally make it work but if you’re wanting to wear flower and veil, I’d go with a loose, airy updo rather than the side pony. That’s just my opinion though, I know you’ll rock whatever look you decide on! :)

I wore a flower and 2-layer fingertip veil. the flower was slightly larger than I wanted, but I loved the cener stone (and I had already taken off a few outer petals). In the end, I really liked the look. It was really nice when I took the veil off. I think what makes the mantilla veil and large flower (in your examples) is the softness in the flower. Mine was rather stiff and would have had been too much.

I did both! Smallish-er flower (about 3 inches, maybe a touch less), and a waltz length (~64 inch) veil. Looked gorgeous if I do say so myself.
