Us Meerkats are just a couple fun lovin’ geeks from Michigan. We love anything having to do with movies, books, video games or technology and we hold a special place in our hearts for our two very spoiled shih-tzus, Wicket and Bravo. We also LOVE to travel. We love it so much it only took us 12 hours after we got engaged to decide to have a destination wedding. We are working our little Meerkat tails off planning a rustic-chic, travel themed destination wedding in the Riviera Maya with a semi-formal, vintage-turned-modern, outdoor at home reception back here in Michigan.
About Mrs. Meerkat

Rocks, Rocks And More Rocks

November 15th, 2010 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Meerkat

You have read all about our venues and the ceremony decor but I have not talked at all about the reception decor. Well, there is a good reason for that. Up until a couple days ago I had no idea what it was going to look like. Total fail, I know. Isn’t this one of the things you should figure out at the beginning of your planning?

I think my problem started when all the photos I found while researching were elaborate, flower filled tables. We are not into flowers. We wanted something simple. Then a few days ago, I came across this photo:

And it got me thinking.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we could have a unifying element that brought all the things on the table together? Why not use the rocks to do that? So, I started researching a little more and found some inspiration for centerpieces with rocks in them.

But when I saw this photo I did a little victory wiggle in my chair because I knew this was perfect!

Add a table runner, some small votive candles and a few rocks scattered around:

Plus perhaps a Martha Stewart style I-Spy game for the table. Our very own HisPookie created a great example for her wedding:

And you end up with something like this:

Yeah, OK, my Photoshop skillz are not the best, but what do you think? Does it fit in with the rustic-chic feel we are going for?

That’s going to look great! I really like the river stones, they give the glass some visual weight.

Loving the flowers & rocks, LOVING the I-Spy.

In your mock-up picture, it’s a little hard to tell what that small black rectangle is. Is it a candle?

@cnd0020: Yep they are these cool little brownish-black metal votive candle holders that the resort uses. It was hard to get a good picture of them.

Loooove it!

I got a 24 bags of river rock from Michael’s when they went on sale for $1 each (instead of the normal $2.49) so make sure you watch for that!
