Say Hello to Our Table Inspiration

November 15th, 2010 @ 6:04 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Our awesome planner had a fabulous suggestion for making our centerpieces unique: vintage frames. She suggested putting empty frames (painted in the center with either white acrylic or chalkboard paint) in the middle of the table as a place to focus our centerpieces.

The idea came after our meeting with the florist. We recently decided we’d have five tall centerpieces, and on the other five tables we’d have clusters with three various sized frames. The frames would help keep everything cohesive.

Did I think to create a table mock-up? No, my mom did. Thanks, Mom! We found an old table covering in the basement (thanks, granny!) that was the perfect color green for our demonstration!

We plopped a frame in the middle of the table, added our milk glass vases, and voila:

Well, it didn’t really come together that quickly.

There was a lot of trial and error.

This is what our table looked like at first:

At this point we hadn’t found the green table covering and were using a weird green colored pillowcase! We had the milk vases, but we hadn’t added flowers, and we hadn’t quite figure out what would go inside the frames yet. They were plain like this:

While I liked the idea of painting the inside frame, I didn’t have any paint handy during our planning fiasco. I did, however, have a huge sheet of fabric hanging nearby, which I planned to use to make our ring bearer pillow. It was as if my mom and I got the idea at the exact same moment—cover the inside of the frame with the fabric!

It was soooo soooo soooo pretty! It matched everything beautifully, too. It helped give the white of the milk vases a little POP of color, and not only that, it would be totally consistent since the fabric will also be used for our pillow. ;)

The fabric drove the train, for sure! Once we got that part figured out, my mom started loading the vases with faux flowers (we couldn’t resist!), and I hurried off to cut a quick butterfly as a mock up for our place cards.

The fancy glass definitely added a little something, too! We were awfully proud of ourselves, so much so that we stopped there! Haha! It was a great start, though. It’s nice to FINALLY have an idea what our tablescape will look like.

It’s also nice to know what we need to make this happen on the big day: more milk glass vases and more vintage frames. Easy peasy (Well, we hope so… I’ll keep you posted)!

Did you make a mock-up of your centerpieces?

oh yes we definitely did a mock up! we were also collecting vintage goblets and glasses to use as votive holders and i had got some amber colored ones but didn’t know if they would work well, so the mock up was a must. and we determined that no, they did not work. we also did clusters of milk glass, but 4 or 5 vases on each table with and no frame. the frame is such a good idea tho! your mock up looks great!!
