Mrs. Lioness's Picture
Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
About Mrs. Lioness

It Started with a Chair

November 15th, 2010 @ 9:37 am by Mrs. Lioness

10 points if you can name the movie reference in the title! One thing that I love about our antebellum-home-turned-restaurant venue is that it has a lot of the original accents: paintings that belonged to the original owners line the walls, while first edition novels fill the shelves. Some rooms even have antique pieces of furniture, though many of them are refinished. For our outdoor, vintage-garden ceremony, I prefer something a little less polished. You know…that distressed, old but beautiful look. What if we set up something like this for our ceremony?

I love the idea of a statement piece of furniture as ceremony decor. For example, look how these dressers bring together a tabletop display:

Though the dresser seemed like a much more functional option, I couldn’t justify the cost. Additionally, transporting a dresser to our venue in my tiny sedan seemed like a disaster waiting to happen. Thus, the chair was born.

Wouldn’t it just be lovely to have a stack of programs propped up on one of those chairs for guests to grab on their way to their seats? Yeah, I thought so, too. So, imagine the squealing that ensued when I found this at one of my favorite antique stores for only $35:

And here it is with a tarnished copper bowl, which will be filled with said programs:

Are you using distressed furniture in your decor? What kind of treasures have you found?

Nice find! I bought a vintage sewing table/chair set for $20 years ago, which I’m now refinishing. Those pics are great inspiration for ways to use the set!

Juno! Love that movie!

PS - your chair is WAYYY prettier than Juno’s chair. I also hope it has less…umm…history…than Juno’s chair ;) But you may want to disinfect, just in case! lol

Vintage is so pretty!

Looking at the first picture in the set, though, I’ve secretly always wondered if it’s difficult to get the furniture out into the middle of a grassy field like that.

Who carries it? Do you drive it out there with a vehicle and risk leaving tracks?

I know… I’m totally overthinking this, aren’t I.

Ha! When you said the post title was a movie reference, I had one of those things where I could hear the line being spoken perfectly clearly, but couldn’t place where it was from. Had to click through to the comments hoping someone else would know! JUNO! Thank God or it would have bugged me all night!

The chairs are so pretty!

@didymoose3: Hahaha that is an EXCELLENT point!

@cnd0020: Very true! That’s why I abandoned the dressed idea…transporting these things just doesn’t seem practical!
