I’m going to go a bit out of order for the next couple posts as I get us all through the formals. We did formals at 2 different times: before and after the civil ceremony. Even though we didn’t take all these photos at the same time or in this order, I would like to keep the family portraits to one post. Here’s the timing we used, for those of you working on your photography schedule.
Pre-Civil Ceremony
After Civil Ceremony
Pre-Reception (cocktail hour time)
We started with Mr Hot Wings and his familia. Don’t the in laws look picture perfect? Sometimes I think they look like the picture of the model family that comes in frames. They’re so pretty!
Mr Hot Wings looks like the perfect blend of his mama and papa, doesn’t he? And Mama In Law looks gorgeous, right? That teal looks so great on her!
Mr. Hot Wings and his siblings:
Now mi familia…
Mama Hot Wings is rockin’ that dress, isn’t she? I’m so glad she let me put her in a sassy number.
I love this shot with Papa Hot Wings! He’s not much of a smiler, so this is pretty close.
And one with both Brothers Hot Wings.
After the civil ceremony, we took family formals including the married couple. We started by with snapping whatever we could because people started leaving. Siblings go…
Big family photo with all aunts, uncles, cousins, and immediately family that attended! This photo took A LOT of yelling, pointing, and dragging people into the shot, but oh gosh, am I happy to have it. It was worth every nasty bridal look I had to give.
Then Mr Hot Wings’ family were dismissed and we took a bride’s extended family photo. We never could get Mr Hot Wings’ extended family back together, so they didn’t get a photo.
Another yelling match ensued to get this photo. It was a serious pain. Our DOC told me she was leaving for the reception site to make sure set up was OK, and I said that would be fine. Oops. Doing that meant I had to take charge of gathering folks for these shots. I seriously would be upset if I didn’t get these next shots! Please please please make sure you take formals with your families. I know it’s annoying to gather everyone and make the time to do it, but I personally feel like this is the shot that we will end up cherishing and framing.
A snapshot with each set of parents, because you know these are the photos they want!
All together now…
And family formals are done. Phew! That was rough wasn’t it? It was for me too, but like I said earlier in the post, I honestly think it’s important. Don’t forget to do it. Find a time, put someone in charge, and MAKE. IT. HAPPEN. Tell them Hot Wings said so. Okay, maybe not. But you get my point.
How was your family formals experience?
*All photos by the ever fab Hanssie Trainor unless noted otherwise.*
Do you need to catch up with the hotness?
