About Mrs. Waffle

Engaged

November 16th, 2010 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Waffle

While looking my Senior Memory Book from high school recently, I came across a “predict your future” section which asked if you though you would be married. My answer?

“Someone might propose to me, but I don’t think I’ll ever get married or have kids.”

Fast forward to a few years ago—I still felt exactly the same way. I clearly remember having an emotional meltdown on an NYC subway train at 3 AM about how “no one will ever want to seriously marry me.”

You know what I say now? “Haha past selves! Take that…

Engaged : wedding austin proposal Engaged engaged

Someone truly and seriously proposed to me! And guess what past selves…he’s wonderful!”

So, wow, we’re engaged! I’m beginning to understand why they call it “engaged,” too. You’re brain and body are constantly filled with the need to conduct wedding business 24/7. Before this point, I was living like the girl who never thought she would get married and never put any energy aside to consider what my “dream day” would encompass. No ideas of flowers or dresses flitted through my daydreaming mind, nor did I toy with ideas of colors and hypothetical bridesmaid line-ups. Therefore, the next bunch of months are going to be VERY interesting (especially since my lovely Mr. Waffle has NO clue what weddings entail).

Did you also think you’d never get married?

Yep. Took me 44 years to find the right guy. I’ll be married for the first time at 47 (in two weeks - ack!). Oh, and it was all his idea. ;-)

Absolutely!!!!! I honestly didn’t even have any real relationships last more than 2 months (ok, I did live with/date a guy for over a year - but he never committed to any “titles” as far as being a boyfriend/girlfriend…)

For me it wasn’t that I didn’t WANT to be married or have kids - I was just never emotionally stable enough (ok, did I just admit that on the internet?) to keep a boyfriend as I was always about drama. But I grew up - met the man of my dreams and the rest, as they say, is history!

I honestly didn’t care. Marriage was not something ever factored or didn’t factor into my life. I was more of “meh, if it happens, it happens.”

Also in high school - doesn’t marriage SEEM like a lifetime away. Far away for another person, as in, not yourself! :)

apparently when I was little I told my mom that I never wanted to be married and I didn’t want a husband. And when she asked me if I wanted kids I said ” of course.” and she asked “how are you going to do that without a husband?” to which my 7 yr old self replied “duh mom haven’t you ever heard of artificial insemination?” apparently I had seen “Look Who’s Talking” one too many times.

I always knew I would end up married eventually - it just wouldnt be when I was super young. (both of my older sisters got married in their very early 20s)

I knew I wanted to go to college, start a career have a totally separate life of my own with fun adventures and craziness before I was ready to get married. Now here I am 30 and engaged. I’ve got my degree, a good job and have more wild and crazy memories of my separate life to hold me over for a lifetime. Now I’m ready to be married! :)

Haha yes, my brain is “engaged” in wedding thoughts 24/7! I never thought marriage would happen for me, I was actually pretty scared of it.

I was never a girl to daydream about getting married, but I always knew that getting married and having children was what I wanted - If I found the right guy. Thankfully, I have. :-)

I definitely started feeling that way since I hadn’t had a relationship last longer then 4 months (a that one was longer then my usual 2 dates before that!) until I met my mister:)

this story is adorable.
I always knew I would get married, though. At some point.

I wanted to get married for sure. But, I also thought no one would ever want to marry me. I’d been in literally TONS of very short-term relationships from high school through college & beyond. I kept getting dumped. So, I started to plan out my life as if I would never get married. I figured that way I could be secure & could EXPECT to be single forever. But, here I am, almost 30, and I’m “engaged”! Thrilling!

I have never felt like I needed/wanted to get married or have children when I was younger. I still don’t feel like I need either to have a fulfilled life. I want to marry my FI and have his children because I love him and want to be with him.

I think my issues stemmed from a long line of being let down and left for other women by men, beginning at a very young age with my dad. Funny thing is, when I finally got over that and realized all I really needed to be fulfilled was to have a healthy relationship with myself I met Waffle. Life is amazing!

I never thought I’d get married, but here I am trying to figure out flowers and decorations and the menu. I remain puzzled by it all the planning. However, I KNOW that FH is the best man I know and I can’t wait to marry him. :-)

No, I never did think so. And that’s why I’m still baffled by flowers. Fun fact: flowers? Don’t determine how married you are. Weddings are weird, sometimes.

Girl I know exactly what you mean! I was a party girl and I thought I’d never be able to settle down and get married. It’s like a fairy tale!

I think I thought about it, but I didn’t know how much of a reality it was.

Did you “waffle” any before accepting his proposal?
