The Buzz About Fuzz

November 16th, 2010 @ 3:37 pm by Ms. Sloth

Now, I haven’t been privy to any official research on the subject, but I’d be willing to bet that I am a fairly rare breed of woman: I prefer my man with facial hair. And I’m not talking about a five o’clock shadow or a little bit of scruff. I think that Mr. S looks the cutest with a big bushy beard.

The Buzz About Fuzz : wedding beauty philadelphia 2 4 Photobucket

Fuzzy Wuzzy

He almost always has the beard, but a few times a year, he gets sick of it and shaves it off. It’s usually back in a few weeks.

Recently, Mr. S asked me what I thought he should do about his beard on our wedding day.

I told him that while the final decision was 100% his call, I hoped that he’d keep the beard. Really, it’s for the same reason that I decided to wear my hair down: I want us to look like us. I don’t want to look back at our wedding photos and see a clean shaven Mr. S when he’s hardly ever clean shaven in real life.

Mr. S agreed that he’d like to keep his facial hair as well. But, for the first time in his life, he’s going to spring for an actual grooming at a barber shop. He’ll still have a big beard, but it’ll be nice and neat.

How do you feel about facial hair on a man? Will your fiance be sporting facial hair on your wedding day?

I asked that Ribs not be totally clean-shaven — he shaves for work, but he lets it go a few days in between and I never think he looks like ‘himself’ until he has a bit of stubble.

My man has a beard & I love, love, love it! I told him if he wanted to shave it for the wedding that was fine but he had to give me a couple of weeks to get used to it being gone. He has had the beard for abot a year now so it would be a big shock for him to not have it! Well he kept it & I’m soooo happy! Our pics look like us! All his sisters, his mom & girls he works with were giving him a hard time about it & he kept telling them “no, she loves the beard” Poor guy…no one believes him!

I would be bummed if my husband had shaved off his facial hair, too. I’ve actually never seen him without it except in pictures - he just doesn’t look like himself!!

I’m a fellow facial hair lover!

Mine kept his usual “chin strap,” a thick line around his jaw but thought about shaving it off, but I asked him not to for the same reasons you said.

He just grew out a full blown beard and I loove it.

I think you definitely made the right decision, as it’s representative of your fh in his natural state!

I think my favorite part of this post is that Mr. Sloth is in the black hoodie in the photo that also appeared in your etsy portrait!

@JillBill: Hahaha!! When I had the portrait commissioned, Nan asked me if I had any specific clothing requests for either of us. I was like “Well, he wears a black hoodie every day between September and March so you might as well have him in that!”

Love LOve LOVE the facial hair, only thing is…. my FH can’t grow any. :-) I’m keeping him since he is perfect in every other way.

I’m with @crayfish - I adore the beard (which is funny, because I never dated a guy with facial hair before). I’ve also never seen him without it (other than in pictures) and can’t imagine him shaving it off.

The only real question is, what will happen when he loses (or I suppose continues to lose) his hair. Anyone have a shaved head guy with a beard?

It would have broken my heart if my husband had shaved for our wedding day. He had an appointment with his dad’s barber the night before, and I very adamantly told his father to make sure the beard stayed. He looks way better with it then without it, and I love it.

He shaved it off for Halloween (he went as Fry from Futurama) and I wouldn’t speak to him for over an hour (in my defense, in a conversation a few days before, he had mentioned possibly doing it and I asked him, begged him, not to, so for him to do it anyway hurt).

I’m not a fan of facial hair really, which is a good thing because my fiance hates having facial hair once it gets to the point where it starts itching. Plus he is in the Marines and getting married in his dress blues, so he will have a shaven face and head :)

I’m with you. I like my babes with some scruff. My fiance is his own barber. He owns a pair of clippers and shaves his head/beard about once/month. I sort of hope that he will do the same thing your groom is doing. I want him to have longer hair and his beard, but I think it should also be a little more groomed than is his normal look. If he decides to shave that will be okay, but if I’m being honest, I think he’s cutest with his beard.

I like facial hair sometimes but my husband can barely make it to a 5 o clock shadow so any facial hair on him just makes him look weird!

I like my boy better with facial hair as well. It drives his mom crazy haha She’s always saying “You’re going to let him keep that???” and I reply “Yes ma’am - doesn’t bother me a bit :)”

He recently has been saying he wants to shave it off for the wedding…. but we’ll see. He’s been threatening that for months.

I love when Mr. FF has stubble. LOVE. So, the day of our rehearsal, he got up bright and early and got a blade shave at a barber shop. He let his facial hair grow and didn’t shave the next day for the wedding — it was perfect. I love looking back on our wedding pictures and seeing his stubble. Weird, yes…but definitely very “him”.

I told my FI to leave the beard too! We are planning on the best tactic to calm his mom down about it though.

I hate when he shaves it all off! I also told him it was his decision, but I did mention that I prefer a big beard for the wedding. That’s a great idea to go to a barber, he would love that.

I never, never, ever thought I’d go for a guy with facial hair. I’d always preferred the clean-shaven look. Until I met my fiance! I LOVE his beard, and aside from pictures from before we met, I’ve never seen him beardless. He’s keeping his fluff for the big day, and we’re both wearing our glasses. Like you and your FI, we want to look like US…only cleaned up and dressed in our finest gear.

Ha! You are NOT alone and I am so happy that I am not alone! I love my fiance’s beard and I playfully forbid him to shave it off for the wedding. He pretended to be offended at my “bridezilla” demand but secretly was thrilled. He did make a comment about looking old with the beard, because he has a few flecks of grey in it, but like you said, I’d so much prefer us to look like us and I’d also prefer walking down the aisle towards not only the man I love, but the one who’s super sexy with a beard!

Totally hadn’t thought of this until this post, but it is a good question. My FI usually has some light scruff that I LOVE on him, but for fancy events he normally goes cleanshaven. His family (and mine, probably) will give us grief if he doesn’t shave for the wedding, but like the rest of you I think he just looks more himself with some scruff. I’m not sure what we’ll do!
