About Mrs. Seashell

The thing I swore I wouldn’t do…

I know, you’ve totally been dying to know what I swore I wouldn’t do. It’s really not that exciting, but I really, really, swore I wouldn’t.

I’m anti-post wedding chop. I honestly don’t get it. It’s like you grow out all this long, gorgeous hair (which takes foreverrrrrrrrr) to create a certain look for your wedding day, and then you chop it all off the first chance you get. Now, I’m all for change. One part that bothers me is that you immediately outdate your wedding photos. Or similarly, why grow out your hair in the first place if you’re someone who genuinely doesn’t ever wear their hair long? The caveat being, of course, the up-do. Sure, sure, I’ll go with that one. I guess I fell into that category—I figured I’d let my hair grow like crazy so I’d have the most options available for my wedding day ’do. I guess the part I get hung up on is creating a wedding look that isn’t really “you” in everyday life. Plus, if you’ve worked toward creating something, why destroy it so quickly?

So, perhaps the moral of my babbling rant is that—in fact—I’m not anti-post wedding chop but more anti-do something totally out of character just for your wedding.

My story? I grew my hair out in anticipation of our wedding. I wanted to allow myself the option of whatever up-do inspired me. Then, when I finally settled on a hairstyle, my stylist advised that if I touch scissors to my hair I might not be able to pull off the look I was hoping for. So, I didn’t touch it for quite some time. And I started to really like it. Check out this shot of my longest-hair-ever caught in a shot Mrs. Avocado took when a few bees grabbed brunch:

Well, check out this face come our honeymoon. This is my “hair, you are drowning me” face. Something switched, and suddenly it was the bane of my existence. The long, long, long hair was making me crazy.

I made an appointment at the Spa Salon. I had to. All I could think was: “Must. Chop. Hair.”

Best hair cut I ever got? Oh, hell no. Here’s what I looked like after some light styling.

I SWORE I wouldn’t, but the honeymoon PWC turned out to be a highlight of our trip. And guess what? I’m totally eating my words. I think I may even go for some additional restyling. Nothing crazy, but perhaps a long bang is in my future!

Are you a fellow anti-PWC convert?

It was the first thing I did when we got back from our honeymoon. But doing it on the honeymoon would have been way more fun! It looks super cute, Seashell!

I totally did a PWC, but I knew that would happen. I had to grow out my hair so my curls could stay curly in an up-do. And by the time the wedding came around, my hair was so damaged that the only way to fix it was to chop off 7 inches. And I LOVE the shorter hair!

Oh, I already have plans {well, in my head} to chop mine off after the wedding! When my hair grows out long, its flat and boring!

I gotta say, I was dying to cut my hair even before my wedding and then when I got back from my honeymoon, it was so damaged I had to! I don’t consider either growing my hair or cutting it as being out of character for me. It’s just different versions of me

See I’m more anti doing something for the wedding that you normally wouldn’t do. So I didn’t grow my hair out at all. When I got married, it was about shoulder length - or the length of your hair now, only curlier. Indeed after the wedding I grew it out approximately 10 inches, before it drove me insane and I chopped it off in between court hearings.

I got a late PWC (about 7 months later.) But it was something I have been thinking about for ages. I have had loooong hair with sideswept/sometimes blunt bangs for over 10 years.

I wanted to chop it a million times and decided against it until after the wedding (I wanted to wear a long wavy ponytail.)

To be honest with you, I can’t believe I waited 7 months to chop it. All that hair was such a pain and I never did anything with it but put it in a ponytail. Love my new shorter hair.

You look great and I think bangs would suit you!

I thought for sure that I would get a PWC, especially because I tend to chop my hair off after growing it out (I can never seem to just get a trim) but Mr. Jelly told me he actually loves it long, so I decided to keep it long. We’ll see how long this lasts (pun intended)! :)

yup! I kept my hair lighter than natural for about 3 years and when we got engaged I continued to keep dying it light but didnt cut it. This resulted in needing me to cut off abou 6-7 inches to make it look and feel healthy again. Oh and I went from a dark blonde to a dark brunette. DH loves it though and it is growing on me as well. Thought I miss the length a little…

I’ve had short hair for 10+ years, and made the decision to grow it long when we got engaged 6 months ago. It’s shoulder-length now, and I’ve got a year to go to the wedding, with no idea how I’m going to style it. But I’ll have options! And after - I’ll definitely probably do a PWC!

Dude. I can’t stand when my hair gets all long and unhealthy. I got a trim just before the wedding which turned into a pretty dramatic chop with my layers, but still left it long. Soon enough I’ll be over the split ends and choppity chop! Your new hair looks great AND healthy!

I’d love a long bang on you! I am anti-PWC because what the heck else was all that work for. Also, my hair was semi-long to start out with. I am definitely a supported of the PWS (post wedding style) because towards then end I just let it get long for length’s sake.

That’s funny, I feel the same way about the PWC! I didn’t have long hair for years and decided to let it grow out when my fiance mentioned he liked long hair. So far I’ve really enjoyed it…but who knows, maybe I’ll have a change of heart too!

I always go through phases of growing my hair long then chopping it all off, so my PWC won’t be out of the ordinary for me. However, I’m sure my FI won’t like it. He LOVES long hair on me, but I get bored with the same old thing. I like it change up my hair on an occasional basis. I change my clothes, I change my make-up, I change my jewelry, so why wouldn’t I change my hair on occasion? lol

Your cut looks super cute! I’m a short-hair bride, so no chop for me! In fact the wedding grow out helped me decide to keep it longer! :)
