Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

Wedding Worries

November 16th, 2010 @ 6:34 pm by Mrs. Hippo

I’m worried…I’m worried ’cause I’m not really that worried. We are right at the four month countdown for the wedding, and I’m feeling…well…not worried.

Sure, there are still things to do. Our invitations are certainly not going to make themselves, and we have yet to figure out the ceremony music…or vows…or readings. We have yet to book our honeymoon, order our wedding bands, and decide on gifts for our bridal party. Oh, and the wedding timeline?

Still needs to be done. The list goes on and on, but for some reason, I’m kind of in a planning holding pattern. All of the major stuff is done—venue, photographer, DJ, dress, cake—and now it’s just the details to take care of. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of details to take care of, but I know that they will get done in plenty of time. I’m hoping this laid back attitude doesn’t last too long ’cause I definitely don’t want to fall behind, but for now…not worried.

Anyone else have a lull in their planning? Were you worried because you weren’t worried?

You’re not alone! I, too, am at the four month mark and am shocked by my lack of worries! Everyone else seems to be freaking out when they’re six months out, but I haven’t really gotten stressed about anything since we finalized the guest list! I’ve decided it’s a good thing.

Yay for non-worry! When I’m at that point, I hope I too can be calm and collected rather than a frazzled mess.

This is so refreshing! I read all the time (and live my day-to-day life) of brides-to-be being totally stressed and overwhelmed. The truth is, there IS a million and one things to do…. but it all will get done.

Thanks for the refreshing post :) t-5.5 months until my wedding and I’m trying to stay calm.

Oh the wedding lull - Everyone kept telling me it was normal. And that was all fine bc I wasn’t too concerned about it. Like you, I wasn’t worried. There were 4 months and that was ample time. It was when we hit 100 days that I felt things begin to spiral. Not out of control just spiral, into all directions…If no one has told you, I am now telling you, on your 100 days until the wedding marker; planning kicks into 5th gear and starts taking you along for the ride. Don’t stress or feel like you have to be ready. Go along with it and enjoy every single second of the ride :)

I thought I was alone!! I have heard everyone saying how stressed they had been during their planning, I have yet to have that experience. Now, money is one issue, but worrying about details … no worries here.

I am a March 2011 bride too, and not worried at all. Maybe I should be doing wedding crafts instead on logging on to wedding bee. . . hmm.

I feel as if everyone around me is more worried about me getting everything done than I am. I keep telling them that I’m used to putting on full productions in the course of 5 weeks, so working on a June wedding is cake.

I was just telling my fiance this! We are at the 4-month mark and we have the big stuff finalized. We have some DIY items we’ll get started on soon, but those won’t really take very long to make anyway. It seems like planning was hectic right in the beginning, and probably most hectic in the last month or so.

I am in pretty much a lull now. I am really not in the mood, but with birthday season and the holiday season we are still pretty busy. I will get back into it right after the first of the year. Not too worried about it.

No worries. I don’t live near where I’m getting married so it’s not like I can do a lot of things. I’m looking at a May date and that’s all there is. No date, no venue, no photog, no florist, no cake. No nada. But like you Ms. Hippo, I am going like a raging storm next week to H-town and I have a LONG LIST of things to nail down. Wish me luck :)

I feel the same way all the time- since I started planning and have 6 months left. Everyone seems impressed by what has been done so far but I know the to do list will be never ending. But my florist told me that this should be fun and I’m just trying to enjoy the whole process… which makes me not worried about the whole thing… and maybe I should be.

I’m actually feeling the opposite! There’s a bit of relief that the majoy players are decided upon, but I’m freaking about the small stuff! I wish I could have your laid back attitude. I’m like “must do something wedding related every minute bc it will be here any minute!” Haha!

I get worried that I’m not worried, and then I start to worry. Does that make sense? Hahaha

That’s good. I say stay feeling relaxed. You’ve gotten plenty of stuff out of the way and if you keep being as productive as you have been, then you’ll be right on track. I hope you have a wonderfully laid back wedding planning experience. Not many of us have that.

I was the SAME way! Everyone kept asking me if I was worried about this or that and I had to be like…um, no?

Oh ma ga! I can’t pull myself out of it! I’ve been saying bizarre things like “the wedding can happen if I don’t do anything else.” Traditional table numbers, dress less flower girls? Ummm… wedding can NOT go on! Good luck!
