The Waffle Proposal Story

The Waffle Proposal Story : wedding austin proposal Proposal proposal

Mr. Waffle and I arrived in LA on a Saturday. He was going to an animation conference all week and I planned to tag along/fabric shop/relax by the pool.

We ran around LA doing conference business and touristy business from the moment we stepped off the plane. It was exhausting! By Tuesday, I suggested we do something chill and relaxed.

“How about watching the sun set at the Griffith Observatory?”

“That sounds perfect!” he replied.

So, on we drove up into the Hollywood hills for a gorgeous sunset.

We wandered around the observatory before making our way to the rooftop where it was windy and a bit chilly. We admired the Hollywood sign though the smoggy haze and rejected the long line to look though the giant telescope. The chilliness and a grumbling, hungry tummy was seriously starting to get to me. Honestly, I am an easygoing gal, but there are 2 things that bring out my grouchy/whiny side—cold and hunger—and they were both upon me.

“Can we go now?” I whined.

“No, not yet.”

“Pllleeeeease. I’m coooold and huuuungry.”

“Let’s just enjoy the moment.”

“Ugh. Seriously?”

“But the sun hasn’t set!” He had a look in his eye that was very pleading. Why did he care if the sun had set or not? I was typically the romantic and sentimental type that would urge us to stay, whilst he is the practical one that would get bored with such an event.

Feeling pressure to watch the dumb old sun set, I turned around and let out a small whimper of protest.

He snuggled me close and nuzzled my neck to keep me warm. I felt him fumbling for something in his pocket, but I figured he was just reaching for his handkerchief (yes, he uses a hanky and he is not 70 years old).

“Oh, all right,” he says. ”We can go, but not until I ask you this…”

I turned around and there he was on one knee with a box full of sparkly presented to me. I had a slight out-of-body experience where I believe I uttered the word, “seriously?” before I floated back to Earth and said, “YES!”

The people on the rooftop cheered. A small group of girls shared some boxed wine they brought in their backpacks and photos were taken.

Later, Mr. Waffle revealed he had been carrying that ring with him the whole time we were in LA, just waiting for the right moment.

Did your FI loosely plan his/her proposal, or was it carefully planned out? How did it happen?

I love that your first word was “Seriously?” My first words were “No Sir” and then I repeated them before getting a grip and saying yes.

Mine had it all planned out. He proposed Christmas Day after he opened our gifts to each other at our apartment, alone before we went to his mothers. He knew it was perfect to do it when we were alone and it just made it so special.

For what it’s worth, my first words post-engagement were, “You’re kidding?”

Awesome! This made it even more awesome, “A small group of girls shared some boxed wine they brought in their backpacks.” :)

Oh and ps…my first words in response were, “I have birdseed in my hand!”

Awww! That is so sweet. I love that you got to share boxed wine. :D

I wish Mr. M. would be that laid back about stuff. He had it all planned out to the last detail when he proposed!

FI loosely planned his proposal to me as well. He brought the ring with him on our trip to Las Vegas, and waited for the right moment there as well - it was at the top of the Stratosphere tower in their revolving restaurant. It was SUPER romantic and special and totally different from how we usually are - logical and not super sentimental. It was in total shock!

My first words were…well, I didn’t have any first words. I hugged and kissed him for the longest time possible, and he had to ask me, “So, Um, Is that a Yes?” I still wasn’t able to answer at that point. I just radically shook my head in a yes motion and started hugging him again. LOL

For the record, I have NEVER been speechless in my life!

What a great story! It’s so funny that you were whiny about it too! Mr. L went for the spontaneous route and when he saw his opportunity he took it. Like you, I pulled the “are you serious!!” too and couldn’t believe it was all happening.

My FI planned to hide a message in a bottle on a beach somewhere while we were on vacation. Turns out he somehow managed to both hide the giant wine bottle in his shorts for the whole day and hide it on the beach without me noticing. He wanted to wait for that “right” moment to “find” the bottle. I had no idea :)
