Mrs. Jaguar's Picture
Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
About Mrs. Jaguar

Hello, Owls

November 18th, 2010 @ 11:07 am by Mrs. Jaguar

I’ve never been a fan of cake toppers. I have no idea why—I think it’s because I’ve seen so many of them, and so many of them have been insanely cheesy. {I watch too much Bridezillas. I KNOW.} The thought of a bride and groom placed awkwardly on the cake either a) looking exactly like you or b) looking nothing like you, does nothing for me.

If we were going to choose cake topper, it would need to be either something quirky, something ‘us’ or something that matched the rest of our theme and looked awesome.

Unfortunately for us, we don’t really have a theme. I always thought I was leaning towards leaving the cake bare or alternatively, placing some simple flowers on the top layer for decoration purposes. I do have a dream cake in mind that would look great with or without a cake topper, and it’s probably going to be free of pearls, crystals, or over the top edible flowers. Just simple. Like me. Like the boy. Like our wedding.

But having said that, something always comes along that encourages me to keep my options open & stop being so close-minded. I fell completely and utterly head over heels for these little guys:

I think it’s awesome that these gorgeous, gorgeous birds aren’t readily available to buy and were from the cake maker’s personal collection. It makes it just that little bit more special.

Maybe I’m not so opposed to cake toppers after all?

Will you have a cake topper? Does it have any significance to you as a couple?

Those are so lovely! I had an owl and the pussycat cake topper…that was kinda/sorta our theme. It’s fun to have one if you feel inspired!

Yes! We are having a bride & groom cake topper. Etsy seller Lollipop Workshop makes the most adorable toppers! They are on vacation right now, so you can’t see anything in their shop right now. Check out these pics at The Inspired Bride:

It was a major splurge, but it was justified by my $99 wedding dress find! (Originally $699)

We had shilouettes of just our heads made out of wood on etsy, they were black and the cake was wine with black, looked just like us and very unique.

Those are easily the most adorable cake toppers I have ever seen! I’ve never been a huge fan of cake toppers either, so I can’t say we’ll be having one. Of course, the cake is still in question too, haha.

We’re having pie, so it’ll be hard to put anything actually on top, but I want to buy a customized pair on Etsy to put somewhere on the table.

There’s always a unique and classy way to do just about anything. You just have to figure out how to spin it!

those are SO cute! and i was in the same boat…i’m not a fan of most cake toppers - and we didn’t even really care about the cake (DH’s boss - he’s a caterer - made us sheet cakes…) but when I saw the site where i got my cake topper from - i HAD to have it. now granted, it was a definite SPLURGE…($450) but TOTALLY worth it since it’s now on a shelf with our sand ceremony vase and guest book!

They seemed really silly to me, too, but I would recommend putting SOMETHING on top of your cake - flowers, maybe, if you don’t want a ‘cake topper’. I did nothing and when I saw the pictures of the cake it just looked kinda naked and silly.

I’m DIY mine. I’m making the back end of a jeep with the bride and groom hats perched on the back seats. The license plate will say just married. I’m making it two dimensional. So it will be flat and then when I’m done I will frame it. Then it will hang in the house.

A friend is making our cake toppers. I saw the teaser art for the co-op mode of Portal 2, a little round robot and a tall skinny robot, both bright white and holding hands so innocently, and I knew they had to be mine. Luckily the boy is more geek than I am and jomped on the idea :-)

As cheesy as it is, I’ve known from a very young age that I would have a cake topper. I have a Precious Moments figurine from baptisim, first communion, confirmation, and graduation. I know that I won’t be happy unless I have a Precious Moments bride and groom on my wedding day. They don’t even have to actually go on the cake, but they’ve got to be part of our day.

Owls are so hot right now. They are everywhere - in a good way though, not in a “omg, this trend is so old and overdone” way. I say go for it!

I made our cake topper, and I couldn’t have been happier with how they came out. I’m now making a topper for my friends’ wedding next year. Hmmm…maybe I should consider selling some on my Etsy page too!

aw, those owls are pretty cute! we had one of those polymer clay toppers with “replicas” of me, mr. pug, and our pugs. i really got it for the pugs, but stuck us on there because i thought just having pugs would be going too far.

I really never wanted a cake topper but the FH really wants one. He is making it and it is turning out to be one of the things I know I will always treasure. I can’t wait to use it and tell everyone that he made it. I love having a handy guy.

We’re having FI’s father make two doves or orioles. He’s a very crafty wood-worker, and he loves whiddling birds, so it just seems perfect :)

Ohhh I love the Owls! I am still undecided what should be on top of the cake and We really don’t have a theme either. I am leaning towards just some flowers, but it will really have to wait until we talk to our cake baker to see what the options are!
