Mrs. Husky's Picture
Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

For months, I worked on the music for our wedding day. I spent hours putting together my perfectly crafted playlists for various times throughout the day, before the band would start. I searched through my entire music library, and I found online recommendations for “love songs” of all different genres that could appeal to the many different generations represented at our wedding.

At times, I thought this a stupid endeavor, a complete waste of time. But I was shocked to receive many compliments on the soundtrack of the day.

So, if you are interested in doing something similar, I will share my playlists, in order, with you. For each song, I will do my best to link it to a video or audio clip. So without further ado:

Pre-Ceremony

First Day of Our Lives: Music for the Background : wedding denver music Husky2 husky2

(guest photo)

This music played as guests were arriving and taking their seats. This list is approximately one hour long and played on repeat until the ceremony began.

Recessional/Post-Ceremony

First Day of Our Lives: Music for the Background : wedding denver music Husky3 husky3

(Mark Hayes Photography)

This playlist began with our recessional and continued to play as guests cleared the ceremony area. The play time is approximately 30 minutes.

  • Nina Simone: “Feeling Good” (We modified this song to start right as she sings “…and I’m feeling good…” just before the music starts. It’s approximately 0:38 into this video. Edited version below—click to watch on YouTube.)

Happy Hour

First Day of Our Lives: Music for the Background : wedding denver music Husky4 husky4

(guest photo)

By far the longest of the playlists, this played as people enjoyed appetizers, lawn games, and mingling and the wedding party gathered together and took photographs. The total play time of this list is approximately three hours.

Additional Suggestions

These are songs that didn’t quite make the cut for my primary playlists but may fit within your playlist a little bit better.

Whew! That’s a lot of music. I hope this list can help some of you, but it is certainly non-exhaustive. What awesome songs have I forgotten?

Are you by chance selling any of your wedding decor? I am having an outdoor wedding in Wyoming at a place that looks very similar to your setting…

Wow! I love this. Did you have all these songs in your collection or is there somewhere that you got the things that you didn’t have.

You have superb music taste! I LOVE the Avett Brothers, and they are even better live than on cd. Recorded media can’t come close to containing their true sound.

@lmn0220: I am planning on selling most of our wedding stuff, but haven’t even begun to sort through it. The arbor will be staying with us (Mr. H built it), but most other items will be going. When is your wedding? Feel free to PM me, and I can give you a better idea of what we have!

@photographernico: Great choices!

@Brenda: How fun!

@laffinatu: Most I already had, but I think the majority of the songs can be found on iTunes or through Amazon mp3. If you need help with a specific song, I’d be happy to help you track it down!
