About Mrs. Panther

From the 1950s with Love

November 20th, 2010 @ 5:45 pm by Mrs. Panther

The dress? Check. The hair piece? Check. The necklace? Check. The bracelet? Check. OK, you get the point—I bought a bunch o’ crap. But I’ve been putting off the earrings decision.

I’ll probably put it off for a while longer, but I just found this site, Portobello Jewelry, via Once Wed, and I’m loving these vintage earrings!

They’re pretty different from my other jewelry, which is a good thing—I don’t want to be too matchy. And they’d add a pop of color and tie into the peacock feathers in the bouquets! (Did I mention that peacock feathers are part of the plan? I didn’t? Ugh, I’m a mess. Sorry. More later.) The only problem is, they’re $289 and the site doesn’t offer returns. It’s a bit scary to spend that much when I’m not even really an earrings person.

Are these beauties worth the risk? Did you prioritize certain parts of your wedding day look and procrastinate others?

They’re super-pretty but for me, not worth that much $$…I think you can find similar ones that you like almost as much for SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper!

NOT worth it–but only because you can easily find something very similar for much less money at many antique stores or on Etsy. If you’re at all crafty, adding dangling crystals to such a common brooch design would be a snap.

They are pretty, but not worth the money. Plus with your necklace and bracelet, I would go for a stud earring…maybe a sapphire or emerald to pick up on the peacock coloring.

yes, i agree with everyone else. i also think that with your dress, which is basically patterned, a hair piece, the busy necklace and those earrings you would have too much going on! it would be distracting maybe? i definitely vote for a stud that would tie the peacock colors in. maybe an emerald green, dark teal, or navy gemstone.

If you can’t try them on first, don’t do it! I bought some off of the internet and they ended up being way too big for my petite proportions and I couldn’t return them… It might not be so much that they dont go with the other jewelry as they may not go with you…

Have you tried 1928 jewelry? They are geared for a more vintage style, hence the name and they have various colors. I am going with 1928 not only for the look…very pretty but also for the cost. Very cost effective :) btw the earrings are beautiful! Great taste :)

I L-O-V-E those earrings but I don’t know that I could get myself to spend $289 on them.

Third vote for Etsy Alchemy. I did an alchemy for earrings for all my bridesmaids and I couldn’t have been happier with how they turned out. I, too, put a lot of thought into earrings because they appear in every photo. And I LOVE the pair you found.

I’m with the rest of the crew. If you’re gonna spend $300, just go with real emeralds! I’m thinking you can get a better deal for these stones. Lurving the style though… so sparkly and dangly!!!

Breathtakingly beautiful! I absolutely love them, but like others before me, I’d recommend trying Alchemy. If you can’t find a suitable replica of them, then go for it–if you love them enough, I’m sure you’d wear them again.

I would LOVE to see your wedding outfit put together. So far I’ve liked every detail you’ve picked for your dress. And even though I can understand why for so many bees it seems like the earrings with what you already have going on might seem like too much, I’m going to go with you on this one. Those exact earrings would be perfect for your look. I wouldn’t spend the money though. I too think you could find a similar pair for less. But either way: hot!

You guys are probably right — I’m really not much of a dangly earrings person, anyway, and they’re just too risky/expensive! Onto Alchemy in search of studs, maybe? :)

Honestly, I saw similiar earrings recently at H&M. They are so pretty, but not worth that much money. I guarantee you can find something almost exactly the same or better for a much lower price.

You’ve already got a lot going on with the style of necklace and bracelet you chose, as well as the detailing on your dress. Going a little more simple on the earring, would be cost and style effective. Something simple and classic so as to not overwhelm the rest of the details would really work well.
