Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

I’m Invited!

November 22nd, 2010 @ 12:36 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

I just got something really (REALLY) exciting in the mail. What’s that, you ask?

An invitation to what will probably be the most amazing shower ever, thrown by my amazing MOH, Sister Cardy! The invitation alone is all I need to know that this shower is going to kick ass. I mean, look how cute it is:

Have I ever mentioned that Sister Cardy is the best EVER? Because she is! I can’t wait for the shower, and I promise I’ll be sharing tons of pictures. Sister Cardy’s been planning like crazy for weeks now, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

Were you excited to get an invitation to your own shower?

Love the invitations, your sister did a great job.

I would be so excited to receive an invitation to my own shower but I’d also be shocked as my future mother in law is the one that is organizing it so I don’t think she would think to do that.

Can I ask, what is the difference between a shower and a hen’s night? Is it just time of day or do Americans do two events???

@Allie: From what I understand a hen’s night is like a bachelorette party, right?

A shower is basically an event where the bride’s friends/family gather (traditionally it’s all women, but it’s becoming more common to have men there as well) and “shower” the bride (and groom) with gifts. There’s typically food, sometimes some light cocktails (think wine and mimosas) and more traditionally there are shower games, like no one can say the word “wedding” or there’s a competition to see who can make the bride the best dress out of toilet paper. Silly things like that. However, it’s becoming more and more common to just treat the shower like a regular party with no games (thank goodness, because they’re horribly embarrassing!)

A bachelorette party (or hen’s night, if I have it right) is more just for the bride’s younger friends (like, her mom’s friends, etc. wouldn’t be there) and it’s typically a bit rowdier and drunker. Basically a girls night out, but usually with the bride being decked out in embarrassing penis-related paraphernalia (again, it’s becoming more common to skip this and just have it be a girls night out).

Hope that helps!
