Best of the ‘Bee - Welcome Bags

November 23rd, 2010 @ 12:51 pm by Mrs. Onion

One of my favorite projects while preparing for our wedding weekend was our OOT bags. It was done on a tight budget and it really made people feel welcome. The Italian side if me feels the need to care for and feed others. The idea of people coming all the way to Burlington, VT and arriving hungry killed me. I put together bags to welcome our guests when they arrived at their hotel and so many of our loved ones approached me later to say how welcome they felt, and how glad they were for the snacks! Many took them on the road with them when they left. It was a small touch (less than $2.50 per bag) that went a long way. How are you making your guests feel welcome?

~~~
When you host a “destination” wedding, all of your guests are from out of town, so it’s really nice to make them feel welcome. And packing welcome bags is almost as much fun as Halloween candy or holiday gift bags.
Mr. Onion and I went to visit our parents this weekend (both of them live within 10 minutes of each other which is great) and we got a lot done. The bags were purchased at Papermart.com and were reasonably priced at $.40 each. I chose these bags because of their color, size and the quantity. You could purchase these bags in sets of 25 — you didn’t have to buy 200+. We also packed all 30 of our welcome bags for our guests. I’m really happy with how they turned out.
In each bag we put water, area brochures, an OOT Welcome Booklet (not shown), nuts in paper bags tied with twine (this is my favorite touch), chips, fruit snacks, granola bars, swedish fish, peppermint patties, hershey’s kisses and cookies.
All packed up and ready to go.
All the goodies were purchased at Costco — the total cost per person was about $2.20 including the bag. The contents shown above was for a couple — there will be one bag per room and the rooms with two people will get twice the goodies. :) I hope our guests enjoy and feel welcome after their long drive.
your bags were one one of the inspirations for us! I love that you had so many snacks for your guests, I’m Italian, too and felt the need to make sure they had snacks!
I just love the way you did the nuts in the brown paper bag with twine! I hope our guests like our OOT bags as much as I like yours! ;)
Yum! Looks fabulous! BTW, while you were before my bee time, I ran across your archives not long after I found the site 18+ months ago… and realized we went to the same school - and I think I had an English class with you! Small world…
Thanks ladies. The thing I love about the bee is the exchange of ideas. I’m not nearly as crafty as many of the others here, but food is one thing I know!
