Mrs. Cardigan's Picture
Mrs. Cardigan, Austin Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst Engagement Date: August 16, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Vintage Villas About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
About Mrs. Cardigan

I was so excited to write this blog post, but I’d be lying if I said it was easy. I thought long and hard about what would be a good secret to share, but I’m really just not that exciting.

I guess I could share a silly secret, like the fact that I’m so easily influenced by scary movies that even though I saw Paranormal Activity well over a year ago, I STILL can’t sleep with my foot out from under the covers because I’m deathly afraid something will drag me out of bed. It doesn’t even seem to matter that I spent the first 21 years of my life with one foot out of the blankets. It was all over after that movie.

Or, I could share an embarrassing secret like my lingering obsession with the music of *NSYNC and Britney Spears. When I’m in the car by myself, I absolutely love to blast some *NSYNC or Britney and dance like a crazy person. Don’t judge. This post is about secrets, after all.

Or, I could share a sweet secret…

Like the fact that the first time I told Mr. Cardigan I loved him was actually months before he thought it was. I was rubbing his back one day and I traced the words “I love you” on his back, wondering if he’d notice (he didn’t). I was too chicken to actually say it for a while longer, but I still count that as the first time I told him, even though he didn’t know about it until just a few months ago!

But, none of those secrets are really exciting enough. I guess I’ll have to settle on telling you about one of my irrational fears (out of the many that I have).

I am deathly afraid of Chuck E. Cheese. Well, not just Chuck E. Cheese. Really, I’m deathly afraid of ANY person dressed up in a huge animal costume. I have no logical reason why, but there it is. I’m terrified of them.

Mr. Cardigan always laughs at me when we go to Six Flags, because I am constantly dodging giant Bugs Bunnies and Marvin the Martians. I won’t go within 200 or so feet of them because I’m terrified they will try to interact with me or, God forbid, hug me.

Oh, and you know what’s even worse than overly friendly people dressed as cartoon characters? Clowns. O-M-G I hate clowns. They make me so nervous, and every time I see one my heart instantly starts pounding and I begin looking for my escape route.

Am I crazy? Maybe. But I’m telling you, those costumes are scary!

Do you have any irrational fears? Please share! I won’t judge – after all, mine are completely ridiculous too! :)

I’m afraid of fish. You’re definitely not the only one with crazy fears!

Lol - Im afraid of the dark, especially my dark basement! Did you see the most recent episode of 19 Kids and Counting - Cousin Amy was terrified of clowns!

It’s not the large costumes that creep me out, it’s the creeper inside the costume who is a little TOO excited to be interacting anonymously, if you ask me!

I am deathly afraid of deer and butterflies. Crazy, I know, but I really panic when I see one. So badly that I tend to need my inhaler right after.

I’m also so influenced by scary and disturbing movies that I often have to leave the room if Mr. K and I are watching a movie together!

I’m afraid of dolls. Thank you, Child’s Play and a big sister who would pretend my stuffed animals were going to get me at night.

Ahhh, I hate scary movies so much! I’d never watch Paranormal Activity anyway, but now I DEFINITELY won’t, because I love sleeping with one foot out of the covers! Cute secrets, Cardi :)

I hate, hate, HATE heights. I almost started crying at a concert in the American Airlines center because of how high up we were.

Concerning Mascots… my adviser loved analyzing myself and one of our offical mascots because we have had to dress up in those wretched things, something about being behind a mask. My work made me dress up as the Reese’s (too big costume, horrible visitors that punched and bit me, and it was HOT). He is one of the official mascots and so he enjoys it far more.
Dislike the OU mascot, just this past week he (it felt like man hands) pretended to eat one of the girls in my section (she punched him in retaliation), tired to eat my piccolo, and then attack hugged my SL- she was not happy.

I am totally with you on the being afraid of the mascots/people dressed in costumes. I have to walk the other way whenever one comes near me or hide behind my husband. We went to Disney World a few months ago and I was terrified the entire time I saw Mickey or Minnie or any of costumed animals. I am glad I am not the only one with the irrational fear!

I am deathly afraid of anything with wings - birds, especially - but pretty much anything with wings completely freaks me out - butterflies, moths, you name it, I FREAK out about it…my idea of personal hell is a pigeon somehow accidentally finding its way into our apartment via the balcony door. I would die. Seriously. Oh, and any scary movie whatsoever is completely a no go - my imagination is WAAAAAY to overactive. I don’t even like seeing the previews.

Ahhh! I totally did the trace-I-love-you-on-the-boyfriend’s-back thing too! We said it out loud a few weeks later, after being together for six months, but the first time was definitely me being sneaky. I’m so glad you posted that because I actually forgot about it until reading it :) So thanks for brightening my day with fun memories.

Mr. S is extremely afraid of clowns too! Which is pretty comical because one of my bridesmaids is a professional clown. He’s just never seen her in her costume lol. She’s already “threatened” to do all our kids parties.

I hate-hate-hate clowns!! Won’t watch a scary movie either, not even the preview commercials for them.

I can’t stand scary movies..I just can’t watch them!! I’m afraid of clowns too, mainly because when I was little my parents took me to the carnival and a clown gave me a balloon, then he popped it while I was holding it..that was enough to make me hate them.

I too have an irrational fear - chickens! I’m not sure why, but they have ugly feet and scary heads. I’m sure they are going to chase after me and peck me to death! Mr. Rose didn’t believe me until he took me to a farm once soon after we started dating and I had a panic attack when they were on the loose!

Clowns are not cute. Or fun. Or funny. :(
