I left off with a near-crisis with the food. Now let’s skip forward a few hours. Several cars headed down south to the property, and we began as much setup as we were able. Mr. Husky and his crew would be coming down a couple of hours later, bringing the trailer full of the items to be set up by the guys—tents, bar, etc.
The chairs were arranged according to the half-moon diagram. Haybale covers were in place. Some tables were set up, but most were waiting for the tents—it would be easier to set up the tents if the tables weren’t right in the middle of them. Some were in the kitchen, working on our mussel shooters and entree garnishes:

Some were setting up the outdoor “kitchen”:

Others assembled the paper lanterns in the barn to be hung from the beams above (as soon as our ladder arrived with Mr. H):

And still others worked on assembling the flowers:

And then we were left with no choice but to wait for Mr. Husky and his U-Haul. Throughout the day, various members of his entourage had been arriving. But several hours after we were expecting him to arrive, he wasn’t there. This may be a good time to remind you that there was no cell-phone reception at the site. We began to worry and sent his brother, Best-M, up the hill to call. He returned with word that Mr. Husky’s car had been overheating the entire drive down and the pull was slow. His lateness was exacerbated by their detour to pick up the 15-passenger van we had rented in Colorado Springs, sending him more than an hour out of the way. Regardless, he was trudging along and hoped to arrive within the hour. And when he did—everyone rushed to greet him:

We immediately went to work unloading and assembling everything from the trailer:

(Yes, that IS the fridge that nearly gave me a heart attack earlier in the day. You will soon find out why it was there.)
As the guys prepared to set up the tents, there was yet another unfortunate realization. The box full of the tent hardware—you know, those pieces that hold the entire thing together—well, that wasn’t in the trailer. Or the truck. Or any of the other 15 vehicles on site. Another mad rush to the top of the hill for cell service, and we were able to get a hold of our next-door neighbors. They broke into our shed (with our permission, of course!) and grabbed the tent hardware. They also gathered up the rest of the critical items we’d forgotten—like all of the shrimp in the freezer and the entire batch of pesto from the fridge. Without a doubt, they saved the day! But they were still a couple of hours from being on site with it all.
While all of that drama unfolded at the barn, those back at the house were working on getting the rehearsal dinner ready:

And dear friend and coordinator extraordinaire, LM, eyed the storm moving in:

Would we be able to rehearse before the dark storm clouds consumed the sky?
