You think you know, but you have no idea. (Come on! You remember that show!)

Then & Now, okay, oh boy, here goes nothing. I was a 2004 high school graduate. I jacked that picture up above from my yearbook but seeing as how I was the editor (along with Britt) I think it’s okay. Despite what you are about to see, I didn’t like high school very much. Actually, I hated it. If you ask most of the people I went to school with they would tell you I was a snob. Now I don’t mean to brush aside all that flattery but I think the correct way to describe me was a bitch who didn’t care. (Seriously, I saw you 40 minutes ago, I’m not saying hello again!) I may have held onto some hostility from junior high when the girls wrote nasty stuff about me on the bathroom walls and the boys used to corner me and give me titty twisters to make sure I wasn’t stuffing my bra.
I assume all that hostility came from the same place—I developed early. Oh goodness, I’m getting off subject already and I haven’t even started with the pictures. I was, I suppose, a prudish loner with awesome friends. Like I said though, most people would describe me differently…

My first car was a 1991 Toyota Celica! I’ll never forget the night Winston drove me home and this beauty was sitting in the driveway. I wasn’t expecting my parents to buy me a car but they couldn’t pass this deal up. Affectionately called the “Ding Bling” because of a busted fender (like that when we purchased it) and gorgeous chromed out plastic 13″ hub caps. Everyone used to steal my hub caps and hide them from me. They were real special. I got my first ticket cruising The Ave in Fall River blasting Gloria Estefan’s Conga. The Ding Bling only had a cassette player (before the DB I had to walk 30 miles barefoot to school) and I had three tapes. Aerosmith’s Greatest Hits, Madonna’s first tape, and Gloria Estefan’s Greatest Hits. I was totally goofing around but that police officer didn’t think the loud music was so funny. Yes, my first ticket was for loud music.
After school, my favorite pastime was to cruise around with my neighbor looking for people on the sidewalk. We’d beep and when they looked, we’d wave the other way. It was HIL-a-rious!

Okay, now you can wonder no more as to why I thought beeping and waving the other way was so funny. Also, clearly I forgot that it was superlative picture day. Band t-shirt and no makeup- awesome. It was especially wonderful because me and that guy up above were voted best looking too but that picture is actually worse than this one.

I had more stats than the geek who sang Paradise City in Can’t Hardly Wait. I was in just about every facet of Drama. I joined stage crew to flirt with the boys
but had many other hats for the theatre. Our drama department was pretty radical because it was the one club in high school that everyone joined. We had jocks, cheerleaders, loners, singers, etc. - everyone was represented in drama. This of course meant that the cutest guys were on stage crew. So yeah, I can nail, screw, and paint like nobody’s business.
Oh Mock Trial the reason for and against becoming a lawyer. I was pretty good at arguing back then. I should’ve probably not had an Ally McBeal skirt in court…

Skiing was the only thing besides dancing I was ever good at. This was the weekend that I did my first glade (tree skiing) and hit my first “big air.” I have a ton of memories from this trip that all come flooding back every time my iPod play’s Sublime’s Garden Grove. We were actually thinking about doing a reunion trip this winter with everyone. Zeb came the second year, before we were together, but this trip, the first, was the best. (I think with that sentence I have officially broken my highest comma count record.)

I read Summer Sister’s every time school let out. It was my ultimate favorite book. Actually Judy Blume was my favorite writer in high school, Forever anyone? I also loved my pretty kitty Muffin. Zeb’s cat, Tigger, was the first I was ever allergic to. Poor Tig had to be put down the day Zeb and I became engaged. None of you with pets have any idea how incredibly jealous I am that you can touch a cat without having vicious slime creep up your eye and block your nose. I guess, now you know.
I thought red hair would be a good idea. What the heck was I thinking?! Yes, that is Zeb’s class ring around my neck. I’ve actually done just about everything there is to do with my hair, save for shaving it. Thank goodness the hair went back to highlighted blond after only a few months.

I was cast as Psyche and Pandora in my senior years competition play, Metamorphoses. Drama comps was no joke. My high school is known for their theatre and in my senior year we won the State Championship along with our rival, St. John’s Prep. The thing about this play was that as Psyche, I had to kiss Aeros on stage. Needless to say it was quite awkward having Zeb sit front row when I was rolling around on an air mattress kissing one of my old boyfriends. The night we were performing at States I got food poisoning…and it wasn’t coming out of my mouth. It was not good. Luckily someone was prepared with a bottle of Pepto and the show went on. We won, so I guess no one noticed that I had, an hour before, been shooting school spirit out of my…
In high school I also took my first trip to England & Scotland. Zeb attended even though he was a Freshman in college. I realized then that Zeb and I travel well together which is a tell-tale sign of him being the right guy. Don’t you hate going on vacation with people who aren’t in your “vacation-zone?” That’s the worst.
I begged Brittany to come to the Home Coming dance. She was never much for school sanctioned dancing, or dancing in general really. Finally after a ton of persuading she decided to come. That night she became our Homecoming Queen. Guess who was next in line? (That would be me.)
I then yelled at her for listening to me. Just kidding, I could never yell at Britt but we did have some good laughs over it.

Zeb and I before my Senior prom. I made my dress during my internship that year. I love that dress! I remember telling everyone I wanted to get married and be buried in that dress. If anything happens to Adeline, she’s on deck. Believe it or not, I didn’t have amazingly memorable fun at prom. I didn’t really drink at the time and I refused to go to any parties so we went to Newport Jai Lai (I don’t gamble) then went to bed.

Finally, the first picture of Zeb and I as a couple.
So, there you have it, Miss Zebra the high school years.
