Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor Engagement Date: September 20, 2008 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
About Mrs. French Fries

At the end of our reception, the hum of excitement of the day began to get a bit quieter. People started to filter out, the remaining candy in our centerpieces was distributed, and before we knew it, our DJ was playing our last song. I remember thinking that the end of the evening had come all too soon, and I longed for just a few more minutes to soak everything in.

I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!

Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.

Florist Talk: Bride’s Bouquet & the Bouts

November 21st, 2010 @ 7:00 pm by Mrs. Brooch

Miss Elephant’s post about her centerpieces inspired me to dig a little deeper into the notes I took during our meeting with the florist. When I created my inspiration file for bouquets, I had no idea what flowers exactly that would translate into. If you remember, I didn’t know what half the flowers in the bouquets I liked were!

The florist knew what all of them were, of course! She also knew if they would be in season, how expensive they would be, and whether they would work for my bouquet. After discussing my ideas, we decided my bouquet will be medium sized (I don’t like gigantic bouquets) and mostly green.

Remember me mentioning that my mom hated her all-white bouquet? She said she was jealous of all the pretty colors in her bridesmaids’ bouquets, which is why I opted for my bouquet to be my favorite color. :)

Here are the flowers I want, ranging in order of favorites, starting with pink ranunculus:

My hobbies include sleeping in, seasonal brews, running, Trader Joe’s, and watching Unwrapped and Good Eats with Mr. Potato Chips. I harbor an irrational fear of tulle, crafts, things that are fussy, and overuse of the phrase "Your Special Day". After a year or seven together, down the aisle we go, slouching toward adulthood and planning a Rhodie party with equal parts whimsy, cheer, and pizza.

Best of the ‘Bee - Classic PChipz

November 21st, 2010 @ 5:30 pm by Ms Potato Chips

This post still makes me crack up, because it’s really my life in a nutshell. So in that way, yes, it’s my favorite.

~~~
Remember our invitations, our whimsical, colorful, cheery invitations?
I ran them over. With my car.
<<Record scratch.>>
Yeah, that happened. Our mailman—who obviously hates us—left the box of invites on our driveway (on a rainy morning, no less!). Busy-bumbling-running-late me got into my car and backed out of my garage, full speed ahead until I hit the bump that was my wedding invitations.
“Hmm,” I wondered. “What could that be? Surely I didn’t just run over our wedding invitations.”
And we know the rest of the story. (That would be: yes, yes I did just run over our wedding invitations.)
Mrs. Prairie Dog's Picture
Mrs. Prairie Dog, Cincinnati Age and Occupation: 24, Program Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, PhD/Biomedical Engineer Engagement Date: December 18, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Glendale Lyceum About Me: I'm a pilgrim soul of a girl with a house full of books and a coffee addiction that could slay Juan Valdez. My life is a whirl of grammar correction, good music, glue-gunning, and two pets named Hazel and Winston Churchill. I'm marrying my high school boyfriend in a formal-ish spring affair, roughly themed: "Elizabeth Bennet crashes a party co-hosted by Jay Gatsby and Cath Kidston, and loves it."
About Mrs. Prairie Dog
Some time in high school, my family and I were talking about a huge wedding we had recently attended. I expressed my interest in having a small wedding someday. My dad commented that it would never happen, seeing as I have a sizable immediate family (Nearly 30 first cousins alone and yes, I know every single one).
“Fine then.” I scowled. “I’m going to elope someday.”
“Don’t you dare,” he said, shooting me A Look. “Your wedding isn’t just about you.”
I looked at him as though he had morphed into Satan himself, right before my eyes. “Oh really? Then what is it about?”
“Family.”
“I’m pretty sure it’s about the couple committing themselves to marriage.”
“It is. It is also about family.”
I was offended, I guess, that my father planned to use my hypothetical, future wedding as a family reunion.
I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!
More Invitation Inspiration
November 21st, 2010 @ 11:10 am by Ms Cheetah
This Cheetah is on the hunt. My prey: awesome and unique invitation inspiration.
As much as I adore all things paper, I’m digging the idea of putting wedding invitations on a different material, such as fabric or even wood.
This wedding invite is looking pretty on a vintage handkerchief! Wouldn’t it be awesome if your guests brought the invitation to the wedding and used it to dry their misty eyes during the ceremony?
I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. The dress? Check. The hair piece? Check. The necklace? Check. The bracelet? Check. OK, you get the point—I bought a bunch o’ crap. But I’ve been putting off the earrings decision.
I’ll probably put it off for a while longer, but I just found this site, Portobello Jewelry, via Once Wed, and I’m loving these vintage earrings!
My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Mrs. Cinnamon Bun, Calgary, Alberta Age and Occupation: 26, Stage Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Theatre Technician Engagement Date: June 22, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Calgary Opera Centre About Me: I'm a life-long crafter and bookworm living in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Some of my loves include Lord of the Rings, Sherlock Holmes, knitting, opera, musicals, Etsy, baking, and of course, Mr. Cinnamon Buns. We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.
About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun
I didn’t think I’d care too much about everything being in ‘our colours’ at the wedding. But, the other day I was walking through IKEA, when I saw packages of napkins in exactly the right green! Naturally, I bought three.
Now that we had green napkins, I started wondering if we could personalize them. I have a Gocco that I bought 2 or 3 years ago, but I’ve never used it. I also have quite a large collection of rubber stamps and ink, including a book-themed set that I’d just bought from PaperTrey Ink. I decided that we could use all the little quotes about books on the napkins. Then, if there are leftovers, they won’t so obviously be wedding leftovers. I knew I’d have to test the various different stamp inks for colourfastness when wet—we don’t want Uncle Arthur to end up with an ink smear on his forehead!
Mrs. Husky's Picture
Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky
For months, I worked on the music for our wedding day. I spent hours putting together my perfectly crafted playlists for various times throughout the day, before the band would start. I searched through my entire music library, and I found online recommendations for “love songs” of all different genres that could appeal to the many different generations represented at our wedding.
When Mr. Ostrich & I first got engaged, I didn’t want any maids of honors or bridesmaids.
Was I being ridiculous? Maybe. But we had also agreed on a small {50 people) wedding and in that group of people would be my very bestest girlfriends. And if I really decided to have bridesmaids, knowing my indecisive self, there would be more people standing up front than sitting in the audience.
So what happened to this master plan of mine?
