Some days, I feel like the only bride on the planet who wants sleeves on her wedding gown for non-religious reasons.
I do have a reason—I have several—but people don’t seem to understand any of them. Strapless dresses just aren’t my style—never have been, never will be. I’m 5’4″ with an…immodest…bustline and a sense of modesty that is anachronistic to my generation.
Suffice it to say that strapless dresses don’t work on me. Since I’m painfully self-conscious about my chest, I tug at strapless dresses, I slouch in them, I feel restricted because they have to be tight enough through my torso to keep my chest in. If I stand up as straight as I should in them, it looks like I’m sticking my chest out, hereby making me and my stupid chest look, in fact, stupid.
It doesn’t make sense to me that I’d choose a style that doesn’t jive with my body shape and sense of style even if it is the dominant trend. Like I said: I know what works for my body, and I don’t think that’s crazy.

Well, hive, it’s about that time. I had a blast planning my wedding with you, reliving the big day with amazing photos, and sharing a few good projects that every bride can pull off post-wedding. I’m not going to say this is my final goodbye, since I plan to pop in every now and then with the Bee Series that are going on, and perhaps an anniversary post or two. I want to thank all of you for all the great advice, support, and bee love you’ve shared with me over the past six months. It’s been wonderful, absolutely wonderful.
For those of you who love nesting, more DIY projects, and taking on a building project (or 10), come take a peek at my revamped blog, Killer b. I’d love to see you around!
All my love, Sand Dollar.
Okay hive, honest time? I talk out of my ass—not TMI ass talking—but rather, I have a tendency to make a declarative sentence and then go back on what I’ve said. Whatever, not worried about it. This particular declarative, now defunct statement is about our formerly flowerless wedding reception. That’s right, we are now investing in colored leaves that die. Or more accurately, my future in-laws are generously gifting us flowers.
I had several reasons against flowers, the first being the price tag. I also thought they were expected at a wedding—a reason to not have them. (I have a tendency to go against the norm, it’s the designer in me.) I’ve also heard many a story where wedding day flowers were completely different than what the florist and couple had previously agreed upon. Finally, the vases I purchased for the centerpieces are beautiful in their own right and don’t (read: didn’t) need flowers.
We started ordering candles for the vases and it became apparent that some just wouldn’t be able to accommodate candles.

Not as much as I love Mr. Cinnamon Buns, but a lot!
I joined Etsy on September 6th, 2005. Etsy was founded in June of 2005, the same month Mr Cinnamon Buns and I started dating, so I’ve known them for about the same amount of time.
I’ve always been a crafty person, thanks to my mum who ran a craft business from our basement while I was growing up. I even got to have my own table at the town’s annual Christmas Craft Fair that mum organized every year! So, when I first heard about this website that was “an eBay for crafters,” I jumped on it. I have far too many pages of favourite items, and 23 (!!) pages of favourite shops. You can see my interests change as you look through them: there was the jewellery phase, the ‘I want a frilly apron’ phase, the yarn phase, the spinning fibre phase, and now…The Wedding Phase. (NOTE: Etsy, if you’re listening, how about a way to categorize favourites? Groups of favourites?)
It’s great fun going through some of my old favourites and finding things for the wedding. Way back on page 5 of my favourites (from May 16, 2008) I had these ties:

Check out these amazing papercuts from Scherenschnitte! I just came across them on Paper Crave—she hand-cut 50 of them for an art show in Salt Lake City. Each one features a state with its state bird and flower.
Since our wedding theme has sort of become birds and flowers, how amazing would it be to feature the Connecticut one and the Georgia one in the stationery, or on display somewhere?!

And maybe Massachusetts, too, since we met there?

One of the first things that I’d decided about the wedding was that my bridesmaid J would be making our dessert. She’s currently in school to be a pastry chef, and while she won’t have graduated by the wedding, she’ll have a full year of school under her belt. Not that it matters; her baked goods were delish even before she started school. Right after asking her to be my bridesmaid, I asked her to be our baker, and she accepted both duties with enthusiasm.
Mr. S is not a dessert person, so he left the decision up to me. I didn’t want a traditional cake, and after falling in love with some cupcakes I found online, I realized that they’d be perfect for our reception.

After the tosses we walked around and mingled with out guests as the night started to wind down.
Here is a rewind to Mrs. Snow Pea’s favorite post!

Last Tuesday we had our first and only dance lesson at Atrium Dance. We really procrastinated on that task! Instructor Barbara was fantastic and taught us enough to move around the dance floor for our first dance. Whether we can do it without making a complete ass of ourselves is another thing. Barbara even instructs at Drexel U sometimes.
What I love about Mr. Snow Pea is that he is a great sport about everything. Dancing made him a little uneasy, but he sucked it up for me. The reason being is Mr. Snow Pea was born with Cerebral Palsy and has what is known as Spastic CP, which is heightened muscle tone and tightness. Mr. Snow Pea’s legs are spastic, so he’s a little apprehensive about dancing in front of a crowd. Otherwise, he’s cool as a cucumber! ![]()
The reason I bring this up is that I don’t think I have ever seen this discussed. What exactly? Disabilities and all that comes with it, e.g. Health Issues, Family Concerns, Prejudice, Compromises, Criticism, etc. These are things that people don’t tell you when you’re getting married, but I am sure many people deal with them. I don’t know anyone else with a spouse who has a “disability.”

Introducing my latest bridal obsession, tiny hats!
While those are some great tiny hats, I’ve been eyeing some gorgeous bridal headgear in the form of small hats. Unfortunately they don’t go with the style of my dress (boo), but I really hope someone in the hive picks up one of these and posts pictures!
Here are a bunch from where else, Etsy:

Hello WB readers! It’s been a couple of years since my last entry and I never finished my recaps, but there was always one tip I always wanted to share…it’s treating your vendors well. I’ve helped out at a couple weddings after mine where I’ve told my bride friends to make sure to make goodie bags, not only for their wedding party, but also for vendors. I’ve recently coordinated a girlfriend’s wedding and had a sit down with the vendors afterwards…and wouldn’t you know it, it makes a world of a difference.

I made some the night before our wedding because I wanted EVERYONE that helped out for our wedding to know that we appreciated them and their hard work. A little goodie bag goes a long way to make sure that they are taken care of during the day, especially since our wedding was two days long.

I’m not really sure when, historically, weddings became one- or two-color events. I think it’s safe to say that most are, though, since a lot of people have asked me, “What are your wedding colors?”
This is the answer that they get: black, white, silver, gold, muted pink, slate blue, and possibly some spring green and soft yellow.

Knitting wedding guests: If you don’t want to see your thank you cards ahead of time, don’t read this post.
I used to be one of those people who said I never win anything. However, once I started reading blogs (specifically wedding and vegan related ones) and entering blog giveaways, I win stuff all the time. Okay, not all time (I wish), but in the last year I’ve won 4 times, which is a lot when you consider that it’s more than I’ve won in the combined rest of the years of my life.
The things I’ve won have definitely covered quite a range. From The Wedding Co. I won this lovely flower girl cone:
