I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.

The Kids Are…All Right?

November 6th, 2010 @ 11:15 am by Ms. Sloth

One of the biggest debates I’ve seen in the online bridal community is about kids at a wedding. Is it rude to have an adults-only wedding? Is it rude to bring your kid to someone’s adults-only wedding if you can’t find a sitter? Should the couple provide a babysitter for children? What about nursing babies? Should there be an age cutoff? What about family children vs. non-family children?

It’s enough to make me want to go take a nap.

When we first got engaged, I had this idea of having a gaggle of flower girls, all of our close friends’ little girls, because, well, it would be pretty. And precious. And we would end up with photos like this:

Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!

I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
About Mrs. Giraffe

I know I may have alluded to it before, but I realized I haven’t talked about my ring yet!

When Mr. Giraffe and I first kind of started talking about rings, what I wanted was simple; I had no interest in getting a ring. This wasn’t metaphorical at all. I want(ed) to marry him, but I just didn’t want a ring.

You see, I own no jewelry—none at all. I wear a nine-dollar watch every day, but that’s it. Jewelry freaks me out—the idea of wearing weird shiny stuff and the feeling of it against your skin? Major heebie jeebies! I have no interest in it at all, and I’ve alway been this way. I’ve never had any interest in “bling,” and I’ve actually gone out of my way to avoid it.

My mom says that after Mr. Giraffe told her he was going to propose to me, her first thought was, “Oh no, I don’t know if Miss Giraffe will wear a ring!” She didn’t say this to Mr. G, of course.

The Grand Reveal: Our Reception Venue

November 5th, 2010 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

There have only been a few moments in our planning so far that have made me feel like a real bride. The first was wearing my engagement ring for the first time, and the second was when I booked our church & our reception venue. Once money was thrown down, that was it—it was all really happening. The Jaguars are getting hitched, squee!

So now that you’ve seen our beautiful church, it’s time to introduce you to our reception venue. I love both of our locations and they’ll be lovely for photographs—and also because they’re only a fifteen minute drive apart. Since we’re having a winter wedding in the afternoon, the light will be fading pretty quickly, so locations close together will be perfect for zipping between the two.

Let me preface these next images by reminding you that I am not a girly girl. I never wanted a fairytale wedding with a frilly dress and bunches of pink flowers. But what I did want was a venue that was traditional and just a little bit different. Enter Curzon Hall:

I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

My Bout with Wedding Envy

November 5th, 2010 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Hippo

Right after our wedding planning week in Dallas, King Hippo and I headed to New Orleans to attend a friend’s wedding. Ummm…it was amazing. And I have major wedding envy.

Now, this wasn’t our first wedding since getting engaged. Other friends of ours got married about 6 weeks after we got engaged, but at that point we had done zero wedding planning—we hadn’t set a date, hadn’t picked out colors, nothing. Just going to a wedding while being engaged was super exciting. But this time around, we were well into the whole wedding planning process, and I knew exactly where our wedding budget was going and what we could and could not afford. Let’s just say, the wedding we went to basically embodied everything we can’t afford. *sigh*

Don’t get me wrong, I am super excited about our wedding, and I have no doubt that it will be fantastic. But we will not be having a live band. Or engraved invitations. Or 350 or so of our closest friends. Or sparklers (for our 350 or so friends). Or a full-time wedding planner. Or a photo booth. Or a marching band to lead guests from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception. Or…do I need to keep going?

Gooooooo Eucalyptus

November 5th, 2010 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

I love blogging, but I have the hardest time coming up with names for my posts, so you’re just going to have to deal with this one having a lame title.

As you guys know, I was in a crazy frenzy trying to find photos to bring to my florist. The meeting went great, and Sandy the florist knew everything I wanted…but more on that later!

I have to dedicate this whole post to one thing.

Right now, I just have to tell you all about seeded eucalyptus! When I was at the floral market with Sandy, we spent quite a lot of time looking at different flowers and green stuff to put in my bouquet. I also saw the coolest looking greenery that would fit in perfectly with the “wilder” look I want in my bouquet.

My fiance is a quick-witted Jersey boy, a self-proclaimed Foodie and the funniest man I've ever met. Together we love exploring the city streets embarking on our next misadventure---and yes, this often involves eating off food carts and trying "the next big thing". One of my favorite parts of wedding planning has been looking at invitations online and in-person. I love, love, love invitations! You can go so many different ways and instantly give the opener an idea of what your wedding will be like. After coming across an article in Real Simple Magazine titled, “What is Your Invitation Style,” I decided to show Mr. Pashmina the pictures of the invites (without telling him what style was which) to see what he would like our style to be.

Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

Remember how I told you that I don’t care about shoes? It’s true. I still don’t. However, my boss does and, as a result, I am now in possession of two pairs of wedding shoes.

Some back story: I’m very close to my boss and she is basically the pushy opinionated mom I never had (in a good way). I have a mom and she’s awesome and the best mom ever, she’s just not pushy or opinionated (For the most part. She does get really pushy if she wants me or one of my sisters to go to yoga with her and we don’t feel like it).

My boss is pretty involved in our wedding and has been extremely generous with me. She’s treating me to a facial, manicure, and pedicure before the wedding and is throwing Mr. Knitting and me a pre-wedding cocktail party. She’s also the person who helped me get my vintage wedding dress altered.

Anyway, I brought my shoes to a dress fitting and my (very fashionable) boss took one look at them and decided they would not work. In case you need a reminder of the shoes I already bought here they are:

How I Ended Up With Two Pairs of Wedding Shoes : wedding shoes toronto 009

I still like them.

She then insisted on taking me shopping and treating me to a better pair.

I love to sing and dance, despite the fact that I lack any talent doing either. I somehow manage to be messy and organized at the same time. I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. Choosing a Wedding

November 5th, 2010 @ 3:09 pm by Ms Cheetah

Deciding to get married does not necessarily mean having a big party with guests, food, dancing, fancy dresses, a wedding party, etc. The Cheetahs endorse weddings of all kinds from big traditional ballroom weddings to private island elopements to backyard barbecues.

Choosing a Wedding : wedding palm springs Thiswe

Traditional I Dos or Underwater Vows

Mr. Cheetah and I discussed having many different types of weddings; going to the courthouse (perhaps the Santa Barbara courthouse), a destination wedding (renting a large house in some dreamy locale for immediate family and very close friends), to an all inclusive big wedding (250ish guests in a modern loft), to what we ultimately chose:
