I think I collected advice on how to make my wedding go smoothly for years before I ever got married. I didn’t have a lot of insight on who I would marry or what our wedding would be like, but I was determined that as few things would go wrong as possible.
Time passed, of course, and, before I knew it, it was last year and time for Mr. DD and me to have our wedding. And, well, I got my wish—not very many things went wrong at all. The things, after all, were just things, and we could control them. The people were a different story altogether.
I already wrote about the people who acted badly at our wedding, but I kind of oversimplified what happened. It wasn’t just during our wedding that they acted badly. They acted badly leading up to the wedding, too. The closer the wedding got, the worse they acted. They weren’t the only ones, either. Let’s just say that we found it to be very true what they say about weddings bringing out the crazy in everyone. Very, very true.

My favorite post is definitely our first trip with Sheldon. It’s the first post about a fun and funny tradition Mr Frenchie and I started for our little family. Sheldon has since gone on a couple more adventures with us and it’s been a really great way to document our vacations, aside from the standard pictures we would take. Another reason I loved this post was because I wasn’t sure if you’d all think I was crazytown for bringing a miniature gnome on our honeymoon and taking pictures of him all over Vermont and Canada. The fact that a lot of you all do something similar or wanted to start a similar tradition made me smile. It’s a reminder of what a great community we have here!

Hi Hive, I’m back! Mr Frenchie and I got back from our fabulous honeymoon Wednesday night and we’re already back at work (but only for 2 days, thank God). I’m trying to catch up on work in the office, but I can’t stay away from Weddingbee. Like many married bees before me, I’m waiting for my pro photos to recap our wedding. In the meantime, I have a few last minute projects to fill you in on and a honeymoon to talk about! ![]()
I forget where I saw this, but I read about a couple that brought a tiny stuffed animal with them when they traveled and took its picture along the way. I told Mr Frenchie about it and we thought it would be fun to bring the desk gnome I bought him a few years ago, along on our travels.
I bring you: Sheldon’s Adventures…
How did you find Weddingbee?
When I became engaged, a fashion-forward and lifelong New Yorker friend of mine suggested I check out a site called Weddingbee, where she had spent a lot of time finding inspiration for her wedding. I’d always admired her style, so I figured she was on to something! I don’t remember when it was that I actually clicked on the site, but I do remember Mrs. Espresso starting her recaps and being obsessed with her mountain wedding details.
What is your application story?
I started blogging under the title, The Breezy Bride as a way to stay in touch with my family and friends in the States about my journey into the white dress. I was so far away and felt like I needed to get all my wedding ideas and feelings out, without bothering my co-workers, who were uninterested. I was a bridal-blog junkie. I was still following Weddingbee, and really liked the Crafts generation as they were introduced. I was over 1 year to our wedding, and I wasn’t doing any DIY projects or dress shopping, so I tried to find my bridal style. In the beginning there are just so many options! My inspiration stage was very long.
When the 8-month mark finally rolled around, I decided to apply to be a blogger.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Last weekend, I had some family come visit me in Georgia. My mom stayed with Mr. Panther and me, and my aunt and uncle (Cool J’s parents) stayed with family friends. In talking to them, the topic of wedding etiquette has come up a few times. And every time I think about it, I realize how little I knew before I got engaged. Embarrassing confession time!
A little over two years ago, my aunt Rebecca (different aunt) got married. She was already pregnant, and the wedding was a bit last-minute, but nonetheless, she’d wanted to get married for a long time and was really looking forward to it. I had just moved to Atlanta and honestly was a little bewildered when she asked me to be her maid-of-honor. I was poor, lived 1000 miles away, and had never been in a wedding before—I knew I couldn’t possibly do a good job. I shared these feelings with her, but she insisted, so I planned a trip up north for the wedding.
I didn’t take part in the shower at all.
My wedding dress should be in next month (woohoo!), so guess what time it is? It’s accessory time!
In day-to-day life, I tend to like my accessories like I like my tea: delicate and sweet, or big and bold. So which way should I lean for my wedding look?

So far, my favorite posts ever have been the three related to our save the dates. Weddingbee introduced me to the world of DIY and it totally transformed our wedding.
The Save the Dates were our first DIY wedding project and I was really excited about them. This project shaped our whole wedding and ended up being our inspiration for other details. When I originally started them, I just assumed I’d totally do it myself, but Mr. Starfish was just as excited as I was. He came up with most of the magnet designs, while I worked on the details. I love thinking back to how one little detail shaped our wedding day and how we created it together.
~~~
Mr. Starfish hasn’t had too many demands or even requests when it comes to the wedding, but he knew for sure he wanted magnets for our save the dates. I don’t know what it is with guys, but it seems like it’s always the guys who want the magnets. I’ve had guy friends come up to me so proud that they “found” this great wedding idea, and by found, I mean they received one from someone else’s wedding. I think Mr. Starfish found this idea on my brother’s fridge.
I wanted an excuse to share our engagement pics, so I was all for the magnets.
The Sunday morning after our wedding, we woke up early-ish. But after staying up until about 3:30 a.m. the night before for our after party, we weren’t moving too quickly. I had a Starbucks Double Shot and some leftover cupcakes for breakfast, and typed up a short morning-after blog post on my phone, before I was ready to take a shower, get dressed, and start cleaning up our messy hotel suite.
By around 10:30 a.m. we’d gotten both of our cars loaded with everything from the suite, and I headed up to my grandfather’s house a couple miles away to help with setting up tables, while Mr. Cola checked us out of the hotel and went to Safeway for the luncheon food trays, ice, and orange juice for mimosas.
Here’s a look at my grandfather’s house all set up for the luncheon. We borrowed some extra tables and chairs from neighbors, bought linen-like disposable tablecloths (the same kind we used for our rehearsal-dinner tables), and reused the small reception centerpieces and bridesmaids purse bouquets to decorate the tables for the lunch. Plus, my mom had bought brightly colored disposable plates and napkins on sale for about 80% off, so big win on cheap decor for our Sunday event!
Get ready for some Hottie overload. After our first look, our Hotties were summoned over to begin their portraits.
Have you checked out the bridal party gifts available in the Weddingbee Favors Shop lately? Show All of these gifts are $10 or less, making them the most affordable and fun way to show your appreciation for your bridesmaids!
Our favorite pick for bridal party gifts are purse valets! A purse valet allows you to hang your purse safely and cleanly from any table…never again will your bridesmaids have to throw their purses on the floor when they’re out on the town.
Coordinate your entire party with monogrammed flip flops, perfect for your bachelorette party or getting ready on your wedding day! How cute would it be to have a picture of these all lined up on your wedding morning? These are a total steal at $3.50 a pair:
I just skimmed through all my posts, and geez, I would NEVER have been selected as a bee these days, haha! I cringe at my own writing…but out of my posts, I think this was my fave…
When I got engaged last October, the first thing I was itchin’ to do was try on dresses. (I’m sure I’m not alone in that sentiment!) I knew exactly what I was looking for:
a) V-neck. Being slightly top-heavy, I’m not comfortable in strapless. I’ve only worn a strapless dress once in my life, and that was as a bridesmaid when I had no choice.
b) Lace!! I love the whole romantic-vintage-y look.
c) Trumpet flare. I adore the look of this silhouette.
d) Ivory. Because it’s a little softer than true white.
e) Empire waist. No specific reason, I just like it!
But didn’t know if 1) my dream dress existed, 2) if it would be within my budget, and 3) would it even look good on me?? (We all know that when it looks good in your head, sometimes it doesn’t always translate perfectly onto your body.)
Anyways, lo-and-behold, I found THE dress at only the second store I visited.
I’ve been keeping a secret from you, hive. Well…it’s not really a secret so much, I suppose. All my close friends and family know; it’s just not something I talk about much because…well, there really is no reason to talk about it. But with our wedding approaching, I’ve been thinking about it, so I thought it was only fair to share it with you. Ready?
That was the title of our planner’s e-mail when she told me the Tribute has changed their policy on sparklers. How exciting!! That means that we’ll be able to do a send-off like this.
Well, this post is my favorite because it was the most honest thing I could have written, and I hope it helped a lot of brides get over their fears of their size and keep searching for that dress—THE dress. I had hoped my misery would help others. Of course, now that it’s been three years, I do love it, but it’s still just a dress. It’s not something I wish I could wear again.
~~~
I have a confession to make: I wasn’t too fond of my wedding dress. From day one I was hesitant to shop for the dress, not longing to see how I’d look in the sample that was made a few sizes smaller than I was. It was hard for me to picture how it would look on me later, when it actually zipped up. This is why I went shopping for just one day, possibly an hour (maybe less) with just my mom and I.
It could have been the cream puff I ate at Beard Papa’s beforehand, it could have just been pure hatred for having to wear a fancy dress that wouldn’t look as good on me as it would on someone smaller (all my own PERSONAL opinion), or it could have been all the people reminding me that I had to get my dress ASAP - could be any or all of these excuses that made me buy the first dress that looked okay.
I didn’t get the “this is the one!” feeling I had heard/read about.
