Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VAAge and Occupation: 25, Writer/EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk ManagerEngagement Date: October 3, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: Oxon Hill ManorAbout Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
Probably because I’m obsessed with writing lists and setting goals, and this is the time of year when I’m supposed to do just that. I also like looking back on my accomplishments, writing a “done it” list, and giving thanks for what I’ve come through. I’m always striving to move forward, but sometimes it’s good to sit back, enjoy where you are, and reflect on where you’ve been, which is what many of us will be doing this evening.
We’ll look at 2010, and think, wow, what happened to the time? Read more…
Mrs. Lox, BaltimoreAge and Occupation: 33, Government WorkerFiance's Age and Occupation: 35. IT ConsultantEngagement Date: May 8, 2010Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Vandiver InnAbout Me: I’m an East Coast gal born and bred and a suburban brat turned city rat for the last year. Now Mr. Lox and I enjoy walking all kinds of places, having the coolest things around in our backyard, and especially our garage parking. I love gadgets, toys, Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream, monkeys, and our insane cats. I’m a blonde by birth and a redhead by choice. I’m that girl in the cubicle farm with all the cool toys and the file cabinet covered in magnetic poetry. I still use smiley faces in my emails, whether people like it or not. This is not the first rodeo for Mr. Lox nor me. And together, we are planning an intimate afternoon wedding on a budget we can afford by ourselves.
I consider myself to be a creative person. I always have. However, I have learned over time that creative does NOT equal crafty. This has been a lifelong lesson for me, taught by heartbreak after heartbreak as I mess up crafts and see all my pretty visions smashed to pieces. Seriously y’all, I am a crafting fail. This is something I’ve come to accept about myself and just move on from it. Well, until now.
Now I’m on wedding blogs a lot. I’m looking around for fun, inexpensive ideas for our wedding. I’m trying to find pretty things that won’t cost us an arm and a leg. It’s a job. It’s a big job. And I’ve been working hard on it like the incredibly type-A bride that I am. But what happens is that I constantly see these awesome ideas…for crafts. These days you ladies are DIY (do it yourself) divas. I am constantly impressed by all of the awesome things I see people making. You probably see what is coming here…
And now I want to DIY stuff for our own wedding. For a multitude of reasons. Because it can save money. Because it can insert personality into our day. Because it can be fun. Because we can create something that is uniquely us and that we and our guests will remember for a long time. And because it can save money. (Yes, I said it twice. Because the money is rapidly becoming a HUGE deal!)

Hello! I booked Phoebe by finding her reviews on Weddingbee, and other than her portfolio, booked her sight unseen, and it was the BEST decision we ever made. Not only is she super friendly, responsive to emails, affordable, and professional—but she’s also super talented and personable to boot.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
As the last of the RSVPs trickled in recently I couldn’t help feeling a little…sad. Because there are always going to be some people that can’t make it and, in our case, that number of people is fairly high. I guess that is what happens when the majority of your friends and family are spread around the world.
Our final guest breakdown is as follows:
143 people were invited
97 people will be attending
3 of those people are “his” guests
73 are “my” guests
21 are “our” guests
Almost every single person not attending is either a mutual friend from overseas or from Mr E’s side of the family. Including his brother—who was going to be his best man, but then had to cancel his flight because of personal reasons. Which just sucks on so many levels. Read more…

I like to spend my days road tripping, watching '80s movies, reading true crime books, buying things on sale, sending postcards, playing board games, dining at food trucks, snuggling, and drinking ginger ale. I have a weak spot for all things sweet, especially Mr. Cheetah! I’m a Chicago girl and he’s a Nor Cal boy but we love living in the City of Angels. After 10 years as a couple we are planning a fun-filled semi-destination wedding in Palm Springs. Hope you enjoy the ride!
Mr. Cheetah and I have spent a couple New Years apart in our tenure (or tenyear, ha ha, I’m so punny) together, but for the most part we’ve been lucky enough to start each New Year together with a New Year’s kiss. But not this year.
Due to our schedules (and needing to save time off for other things, aka the honeymoon) our only engaged New Years, where the new year will be the year of our wedding, will be spent apart. Read more…

About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.
Way way back, at the beginning of this whole process, over nine months ago, I wrote about how our goal was to have an amazing wedding that celebrated us. By celebrating us, I mean celebrating who we are, what we stand for, how we live. Our lifestyle. A lifestyle of living simply and lightly on the planet.

I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
It’s almost time. The impending New Year is coming, with the year of 2010 having come and gone ridiculously fast. With the New Year it’s time to make some resolutions. But more importantly, did you watch the premiere of I Used To Be Fat last night?
I can remember this time last year very clearly. It was 10 months before the wedding and I was convinced, “I’m never going to lose weight!”
I had been slightly overweight since high school. Read more…

I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
Our original post-wedding vacation plan was pretty loose: a minimoon within driving distance immediately after the wedding, and a bigger trip somewhere later in the year.
Well, for the minimoon, we’ve decided on the Finger Lakes. Mrs. Socks’ honeymoon recaps helped clinch it. We can’t wait!
But for the big honeymoon later on in the year, it was a much harder decision. We’d considered Greece, Spain, Argentina and Thailand, but now we think we’ve narrowed it down to two entirely new honeymoons.

Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
After all ofthe drama that I had with the sewing machine earlier in our engagement, you’d think I would never want to use one again.
But I guess I’m a glutton for punishment because just a couple of weeks ago I found myself busting out the sewing machine again for another project.
What? I had leftover fabric scraps that I needed to use! I paid good money for the fabric and dammit, I was going to use it!
But, luckily for me (and Mr. Cardigan, and everyone else who has to interact with me on a daily basis) this project was much, much (much much much) easier than the napkins.
I’ll admit that I probably didn’t do this the “right” way, but with my new attitude of “if it stresses me out, it’s gone” when it comes to wedding-related things, I knew I had to keep things simple.

I tend to fall in love with everything I encounter, but more than anything, I love my two little kitties, Bela and Josie, and my big kitty, Mr. Panther! As a wannabe crafter, I'm still waiting for my artistic talents to emerge. (Any day now, really.) In the meantime, I spend my days eating anything put in front of me, buying every pair of shoes I see and absorbing wedding inspiration from every inch of my surroundings. Mr. Panther and I are hardcore New Englanders planning Connecticut nuptials from our new home in the Dirty South, and can't wait to mix our newfound love of classic Southern charm with some modern city touches.
Having my dress hanging in my guest room closet has its disadvantages. 1) It takes up a lot of space. 2) I’m even more terrified of fire than I used to be. 3) It’s really hard to stop myself from taking it out, and my hands always have food on them, so that’s really dangerous.
However, the situation certainly has some positive sides. In addition to being able to pose my shoe choices in front of it, I can also test out color combinations. Since coming up with my flower plan, I’ve been obsessing over whether light-colored flowers would look strange against the “caffé” fabric. As a reminder, this was one of my favorite inspiration bouquets:

Because we finally have an invitation design! I still need to add the finishing touches and get it to the printers ASAP, but at least now we have a plan.
Now that the design plan is in place, I’ve been thinking up ways to address these bad boys.
Option 1: Calligraphy
I have a thing for slanted formal calligraphy. Too bad my handwriting mimics that of a 10 year old and there isn’t room in the invitation budget for a pro.
Mrs. Eggs Benedict, SeattleAge and Occupation: 29, AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, AttorneyEngagement Date: December 5, 2009Wedding Date: February 2011Venue: IslandWoodAbout Me: I'm a Northwest girl who spends my time goofing around with Mr. Eggs Benedict and our dog, hiking, traveling, drinking wine and planning a wedding that will showcase the best of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. I also love photography, beating Mr. Eggs Bene at Mario Kart, and watching the most ridiculous natural disaster flicks you can think of (seriously, how can you deny the awesomeness that is The Core or 2012?? That's right, you can't). We are planning our weekend wedding adventure at an environmental educational center, and I can't wait for the fun to begin!
I still can’t believe that Mr. Eggs Benedict pulled off such an amazing surprise. Well, I can believe it, because I had NO idea that he was going to propose when he did. I thought it was going to be months before he asked, and I had reached the point where I was actually completely OK with it. (I’d had hopes earlier on in the summer during our second trip to Hawaii together that that might be the time, but he didn’t want to do it then. Remember how I said we don’t like being hot and sweaty? That factored in to when he wanted to propose—hence waiting until December.)
Mr. Eggs and I moved in together after he graduated from law school. I had graduated the year earlier and had been living in Portland for a year at that point. About a month prior to his graduation, I moved into the apartment and then he moved in in May. Anyway! The point of all that is that sometime at the beginning of November I started telling Mr. Eggs that I wanted to get a Christmas tree. I’ve never had my own Christmas tree before, and it turns out Mr. Eggs had never had one of his own, either. I’ve been in school for what feels like forever, so now that Mr. Eggs and I were living together and starting our family together, I really wanted to start our traditions together! And one of those traditions I was determined to start would be cutting down our own Christmas tree together.
Of course, that turned into a slightly bigger ordeal than I was first anticipating. See, since neither of us had ever gotten a tree before, we didn’t have a stand, or lights, or decorations. And do you have any idea how hard it is to find a tree stand the first week of December? Yeah, neither did I. So we had to go to three stores to get a stand, some lights, and a few ornaments. By this time, I was getting a bit, um, cranky. So—refuel with a latte and head out to the Christmas tree farm!
Because when I say I wanted a Christmas tree, I mean going and cutting one down ourselves. My family’s been going to the same Christmas tree farm for years, and there’s just something way more satisfying about cutting down your own than just picking one up in a parking lot.

I’ve had a behemoth Yudu screen printing machine taking up precious space in my closet for two years. I’d dream up projects for it, chicken out, and change my mind here and there about using it. (I particularly wanted to use it with Robin’s invitations, but with any gadget, there’s a learning period to using it, and I didn’t want to tackle someone else’s project learning on the machine.)
This year for Christmas I decided to bite the bullet. Back in October I ordered 150 flour sack towels from the American Chair Store with high hopes and intentions to put together a small package for our Christmas cards. In December it was a mad dash and a few long nights of ironing and screen printing, but I’m happy to report that my first foray into Yudu screen printing was a success, and I would love to print some invitations on fabric in the future…a good excuse to throw a party!
I had to wash and iron all of the towels first to get rid of lint and give myself a nice flat surface to print on.
