Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

When I first discovered Weddingbee, I thought: I was born to do this. It sounds silly, but I had been blogging for about a year and loving it, and I was desperate to share my wedding journey with a larger audience. I loved all of the REAL advice and wedding insight available on Weddingbee, too. I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to help other brides and be helped. Naturally, I checked the website every day (morning and night) in absolute awe of the bees’ amazing wedding work, and hopeful to be like them one day.

I have to admit that when I first submitted my application, I was pretty confident. Cocky, really. I thought, “Why wouldn’t they pick me?” The only thing that worried me was that our wedding was planned for October at the time and that was subject to change, and as you know, applicants must be only 9 months from their wedding date.

I got rejected!

I hesitated before re-applying. I actually wasn’t going to until I saw this post from Pengy announcing that they were accepting applications for April 2011 brides. We had switched our date, just as I suspected that we would, and I was an April bride—I took it as a sign!

I went through my old application, editing and perfecting it (this was at 11PM at night), and submitted it without telling anyone. Because Pengy made the announcement on a Friday and I didn’t catch it until Monday, I worried that a bunch of applicants might have beat me to the punch, so I stayed up half the night to get my application complete and resubmitted. I didn’t want to tell anyone because I didn’t want to have to go through explaining if I was let down again. I obviously wasn’t as confident the second time around.

I was SHOCKED when I got Pengy’s email.

OMG!

I was so excited and couldn’t wait to share the good news! I called up my mister and said, “You know that website I wanted to blog for, and that I’ve been obsessed with?” He said, “Duh. Yes. Weddingbee.” Then I sorta whispered with a cannot-contain-my-excitement voice, “I got in! I got in!

We were both pretty thrilled at the time and the funny thing is we had no idea how much we would come to appreciate the hive. In the first few weeks blogging, I went to other bees with a lot of questions, and got a lot of really great feedback. We turned to the boards for help, and there we got a lot of love and support, too. At one point Mr. B said, “This Weddingbee thing is really turning out to be a blessing.”

I don’t think either of us ever really knew how special it would become, and how often and casually we would refer to the hive and to the “bees.” We had no idea they’d help us in making some really big decisions. It was like someone opening a vast vault of great insight and love, and saying “Got questions? Got concerns? We’re here to help!”

And, boy—that’s been a wonderful thing.

Now, it’s hard work being a bee, too. You have to love to blog to be able to do it and you’ve got to be determined to keep with it. You have to be willing to source all your photos, and help a reader find something if they have a question about it in your post (at least I feel obligated in that way), and you also have to love talking about your wedding.

You have to be willing to put it all out there, and not be afraid of what others will think, and to be willing to share it all, which is sometimes exhausting. After doing a great craft project or finding the perfect gown, you have to be willing to pour out everything about those experiences to share them here.

It’s oh-so-rewarding, though. The friendship and support I feel is phenomenal. There’s nothing else like it, and there’s no other place you can get it. Your mom and your Maid of Honor won’t get it like you do. It’s something shared here in the pages of cyberspace, where weddings and friendship go hand-in-hand.

Thank you, Weddingbee. You’ve made my year. :)

I agree with everything you just said - nobody does tend to ‘get it’ like other bees & bloggers. It’s fabulous. :)
