As we approach the 100-day mark, we need to start hammering out some of the details—like the ceremony. You know, just the little thing that actually makes us married. Thankfully, we figured out who would be performing the ceremony at the beginning of our planning.
Who else thinks of this guy when you hear the phrase “wedding officiant”?
In California, people can be ordained online or even temporarily deputized in order to perform wedding ceremonies, so we wanted someone close to both of us to perform our civil ceremony. Enter our close friend, BW. BW went to high school with Mr. Cheetah, and I have known her since I first moved to California. A few years ago, BW casually mentioned that she would love to officiate our wedding when the day came. Hurrah—a wedding decision made years before either of us had engagements on the brain!
BW is a wedding superstar. She herself has been a bridesmaid at least a dozen times! She is a teacher and has a theater background, so she’ll be very comfortable speaking in front of all our guests. And most importantly, she is an amazing person who knows us both alone and together.
The Cheetahs & BW
BW has a deep-rooted love for all things Dr Pepper, so Mr. Cheetah I and decided to work that into asking her to be our officiant. After a glamour photo shoot with a couple old fashioned bottles of Dr Pepper at the beach, we had a nice glossy photo perfect for BW. We printed out a little banner asking her to be our officiant and simply taped it atop the picture.

BW must’ve liked it because she said yes—even though she had long forgotten offering to marry us years ago!

so creative! i love how you asked her. We are having my FI’s uncle perform our ceremony. He comes from a big catholic family and he has 2 uncles who are catholic priests. One in particular, he has a pretty close relationship with, so naturally we chose him! 
I loved that Mr. G’s brother was our officiant. When the officiant is someone close, it feels so much more special!
Mr. B’s dad will officiate for us, he was just ordained as a minister last year, and I’m glad it’s someone close to us too. You were so thoughtful to put together that frame and ask Cute!!

Would love to have him as our officiant, but we are having a friend officiate as well. Congrats on finding someone great!
It was so important for us to find someone who really knew us as individuals, as well as a couple. My best friend’s dad will be officiating. My bf and I have know each other since age 12, but her dad has known my fiance since birth. I think it is such a personal touch to the wedding.

What a cute story! My officiant is a close friend of the family who is also a Rabbi. He was there when both my grandparents on my mothers side passed away. Its very unique when there is an emotional bond to the person who will be officiating your ceremony!
hahahaha, me, me!! I think of that guy every time I think about officiants!! One of the best wedding scenes EVER!! Oh, and my officiant is my Grandfather! So good onya! I think it’s deeply personal being married by someone who you actually care for and have a great relationship with!
I would have loved to have one of our friends or close relatives officiate for us. I really love when I see people do that. It seems so special compared to just hiring someone to you don’t know.
Also, love that scene from The Princess Bride. So much infact, I took the beginning part of it and spliced it into our wedding slideshow.
I THINK OF THAT GUY, TOO! Mr. Panther and I say “Do you, Pwincess Buwwacwaaaa …” all the time!

We just picked an officiant this week after trying to decide for over 3 months. It would have been much easier if we had a close friend like your gal BW!
