Something for the Kids

December 2nd, 2010 @ 11:23 am by Mrs. Earrings

I always knew there would be kids at our wedding. I definitely understand and respect people who choose to go the kid-free route for their weddings, but it just never crossed our minds for kids not to be there at ours. I have so many little cousins and friends with babies that having a kid-free wedding would be too much of a logistical problem (getting babysitters, etc.). Plus, Mr. E and I also always wanted our wedding to have a real feeling of “family” about it, and, in this case, kids are a part of that family. It does help of course that our venue is the perfect place for kids to let loose and play (reminding me of my days visiting there as a child).

Eleven kids running around during our picnic reception will just add to the fun and the atmosphere, but do I want kids running around during our ceremony? Nope. Now, I know kids are unpredictable, so I can’t do everything to ensure their good behaviour, but I can make these as a way to (hopefully) keep them occupied:

After seeing a wide range of kids’ wedding activity books across the blogs, I decided to do my own. They are very simple: cream cardstock for the covers, purple twine to bind, and a heart-balloon stamp from cupcaketree on Etsy to decorate the cover. At this point in time, simple seems best when it comes to DIY projects!

As for the insides, yes, that is an “I Spy” based off the ever-popular Martha one:

I just made up some of my own things to “spy” that were more relevant to our wedding. In case you want to know, the font I used is Romantique, found on Dafont. I also put in some pages for colouring (with prompts) and a find-a-word puzzle that some of the older kids might like. Do you think that will keep them happy? Let’s hope so!

Did you provide something to keep kids busy during your wedding ceremony?

These are really cute! We are not having kids at our wedding, but if we did I would want to do some sort of activity book to help keep them entertained.

So much fun! I’d do this even as an adult!

I created coloring/activity books for the boys and girls that are wedding themed. There are tones of places on the web to down load pages for kids. Crayola is fantastic!

Have fun!

This is genius. My cousin has spawned half a dozen holy terrors and this would be the perfect way to keep them busy during the ceremony. I don’t care if they’re crazy during the reception but they need to keep quiet during my moment, darn it!
