Dressing the Cinnamens

December 3rd, 2010 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

A quick refresher of our wedding colours: dark teal, light teal/aqua, apple green, book print.

Once we had our colours, it was time to figure out who would wear what colour.

I, of course, will be a vision in ivory. :)

I’d always imagined (and by ‘always’ I mean since we got engaged—I was never one of those wedding-scrapbook little girls) my bridesmaids in a nice cocktail-length teal dress. I personally love that apple green colour, and own shirts that shade already:

Proof, in a fuzzy self-timer photo of a new haircut in 2008.

But I realize that many people don’t see the beauty of apple green, and only see lime, or worse, neon! But I would like to at least delude myself that the girls would wear their dresses again, so I’m looking for teal dresses.  The groomsmen, on the other hand, are fair game! :)

I have to say that Mr. CB took some convincing on the apple green front. He liked the idea of it as an accent, perhaps for flowers and decor, but not for clothes. At one point in our conversations about wardrobe, no one was wearing it! Why pick it if we won’t use it?

Mr. CB knew that he wanted to wear a vest, and the GMs will probably also have vests. We’re still waffling on the subject of whether they will wear jackets, though. I knew an apple-green vest would be a custom thing, and that a black vest would be much more useful, so we are thinking black 3-piece suits (possibly sans jacket), with colour in the shirts and ties. I am all for a colourful getup for the guys, and found this wedding featured on Rock ‘n Roll Bride to be the perfect inspiration:

Bridesmaids shouldn’t have all fun with colour!

Matching Converse!

Then I was out walking one day, passed by a Le Chateau, and what were all the mannequins in the window wearing, but teal! As soon as I could I dragged Mr. CB down there to have a look at the shirts. I knew that when we finally found the right colours that we would need to snap them up before they all sold, or the seasons changed. Mr. CB tried on a few of their teal-y shirts, while I took pictures on my iPhone (what would I do without that thing?!):

It really is more teal; we were just in fluorescent light

We even grabbed a black vest so we could get a better idea of the look. On the day, there will either be a tie there, or the top button will be undone sans tie. Mr. CB just wanted to see how tight it was around his neck.

I also found the perfect apple green shirt there. I made P try that on too, to convince him of the awesomeness of the apple.

Yes honey, I’ll try on the day-glo shirt.

The verdict was: way better than he thought, but he still wouldn’t wear it (I think he looks great!). He felt much less badly about asking his groomsmen to wear it after doing this test-run with a vest.

Mr. CB and I are still discussing ties—he has suggested maybe a lighter, aqua-y tie that is the same for him and the GMs, and I like the idea of mirroring. His idea would be much easier to do, I think, because it’d be easy to find an aqua that goes with both shirts. It will be less easy to find both a teal and an apple green that match properly. But if the GMs have green shirts and aqua ties, will teal dresses on the BMs look funny?

You might be wondering how/if we’re going to tie in our book/text element to these outfits. I don’t know about the girls, but the guys ties will be the awesome and geek-tastic Lorem Ipsum ties from toybreaker on Etsy:

Dressing the Cinnamens : wedding calgary menswear Il 570x03

Text Tie!

There are many sites dedicated to Lorem Ipsum for you to find out more, but basically it is printers’ dummy text. Done a layout, and want to see what it looks like with text in there, but don’t want to get distracted by content, or have to write something? Lorem Ipsum to the rescue!

So we’ve decided some things: teal for Mr. CB, green will be acceptable with a vest, but I still have the following dilemmas:

  • Tie colour: Aqua for all? Teal for GMs, Green for Mr. CB? Another option?
  • Do I have to give up the idea of teal bridesmaid dresses? (Say it ain’t so!)
  • Print colour for the design on the ties. (I’m thinking black, for simplicity’s sake)
  • Jacket or no jacket?
What do you think about the bright color scheme on our bridal party?

I love teal bridesmaids’ dresses, but I’m a little biased! =) If you haven’t already picked them, you should check out the matisse blue at J. Crew. It’s on the bluer side of teal, and it’s goooorgeous. (Again, I’m a little biased — that’s what my girls are wearing.)

So much wonderful inspiration! I say jackets…you can always take pictures without, too! If you’re torn about the tie, you can always do a solid (black or bright) and use paper in the bouts! Like this:

Definitely black print on the ties- do guys do a clarification of Best Man and groomsmen? Maybe the Best Man can wear the same color tie as Mr. CB. Also with regards to jacket - is the feel of the wedding more casual or more formal? I think no jackets for a casual feel!

Oh my gosh! Those ties?! I die. Amazing and perfect are a few words to describe them. . .

Although, they might be a little cooler if they had this: http://www.lorizzle.nl/

Just saying ;-).

I love your colors! Yay for the apple green. It looks great on Mr CB. My FI is looking at ties for his groomsmen, too!

For what it’s worth, I like Mr. CB in the apple green shirt. :)
