Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher Engagement Date: October 23, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
About Mrs. Giraffe

Little People, Big Wedding!

December 3rd, 2010 @ 9:46 am by Mrs. Giraffe

OK, I’m aware that this is ridiculously goofy, but I just have to share it. I mean, if the hive doesn’t appreciate it, who else will?

There are a ton of kitschy/cutesy cake toppers that I—and such a ton of others, I’m sure—would love to have on their cake, like these giraffes (of course) for instance:

Or these super cute snowmen:

I mean, really, there are a ton of things to top your cake with, and boy-oh-boy do I plan on blogging about them later, but for now I have one specific idea to share with you guys.

The other day I was in the grocery store and, on my way to the pharmacy, walked through the one toy aisle in the store. I was kind of glancing at the toys as I went by, and y’know what my eyes stopped on at the end of the aisle?

Why, Little People of course!

You guys, this got me thinking. See, I grew up with Little People. For realsies. I have many a memory of them from when I was a wee little giraffe. Of course, in my day, they looked more like this:

Don’t those little guys remind you of those mini-people-shaped cake toppers that are like Hansel and so hot right now? Y’know, like these guys:

So, right! I totally know they do! I’m sure you guys know where I’m going with this…You could totally stick Little People on your cake! It would be all nostalgic and adorable and hip and cool and pop and fresh!

This bride and groom clearly dressed for the occasion:

And this groom went out and got his beard all trimmed to look good for the big day:

And, well, I know some hive members like to include their pets on top of their cakes.

You guys don’t have to tell me; I know you love them.

Anybody getting a little silly with their cake toppers?

Adorable! My FI and I both love cake toppers so we’re have a bunch on the cake table instead of one on top of the cake. These little guys might just have to make it onto our table.

I’m making button people for my cake topper… I’ve already made one set but I don’t like them, so I’m going to redo them.

LOVE this! I am pretty sure my mom kept all of our old toys, this makes me want to pull them out and look for the little people!

The first cake toppers are my fav! I think they are by Bunnywithatoolbelt. She did ours too! Our fun cake toppers were a big hit at our wedding. You can see them here:

OMG I loved my little people!!! I must have had over a dozen houses/hospitals/farm/bus/car repair garage/plane/big play sets for them! XD

And your right! I never thought about that, lol, I’m sure you could paint them too so you could have a girl in a white dress and the guy in a tux…I know there must have been a tux guy somewhere so maybe you could do a little surgery on the guys, XD, to get a perfect match!

tee hee, thanks for sharing!

Yup! My husband works in retail…Old Navy to be exact. In 90% of the stores the fitting room was initially built near the kids/baby dept. When he first started and would spend some lonely hours manning the fitting room, he would often find toys left behind by mommy’s little helpers. Of course he would hold on to them for a period of time, in case they came back to claim their precious toys, however, if they did not…they ended up at home with him. Over the years (10 I think he’s been there) he has acquired an intense collection of rubber ducks. As a joke, a friend of ours bought us bride and groom rubber duck cake toppers. Well I thought to myself, I can dress this up, why not use it? So we did. I adhered them to a round mirror and gold leafed the edge to make it shine. The detail on the cake matched a design from the tiara on the RD bride.

It was cute. Not to mention, it matched his surprise groom’s cake perfectly. Nothing other than a rubber duck in a tux and a top hat!

Later when I get home I’ll try to upload pictures if I can.

I made 2 just to be safe, so I’m selling the extra one on Etsy :)

Getting silly over here! I think we’re going to hide a Lego couple somewhere on our cake.
