I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.
About Mrs. Ostrich

You’ve Got the Write Stuff

December 3rd, 2010 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Ostrich

“A #2 pencil and a dream can take you anywhere.”

- Joyce A. Myers

I L-O-V-E school supplies. Not past tense, people. I’m a post post post post grad, and my favorite parts of supermarkets, drugstores, and Target will always be the school-supply aisles. I drove my parents mad with how much junk I bought during our back-to-school shopping excursions. And yes, I was that really annoying girl that took notes and highlighted textbooks in class, next to you, in five different colors. And my pencils and erasers smelled like strawberry because they were from Sanrio.

See??? Still obsessed. :)

So can you imagine my reaction when I found out that there were other school-supply-loving brides out there…and that they used them as favors and bits in their weddings?? Look at these beauties!!!

Oh yeah, it was a big moment. And while Mr. Ostrich and I are pumped about our favors, I started scheming to find a way to justify a purchase for some school-supply-related wedding things.

The OOT bags (help-wanted post coming soon on this!)…and the reception table!

All right, I officially had motive. Now what to get? In true Ostrich-wedding form, our school-supply wedding bits had to be playful and clever…and sparkly is always a plus. ;)

Enter Earmark. It is the coolest Etsy shop that sells all sorts of funny and super cute things. But their pièce de résistance?

Candy-colored and metallic no. 2 pencils with phrases that’ll make you burst out laughing (”I’m kind of a big deal” and “Stay classy”)…or smile really big.

I had to have ’em. So I professed my love for them in an Etsy conversation and asked if they’d do a custom order…and they said YES!

**fast forward to a few weeks later**

When I arrived at my office this morning, I saw this:

And when I opened it up, I FOUND THIS!

“OH HAPPY DAY!”, “ADVENTURE AWAITS…”, and pure and simply, “AWESOME!” (because I’m a California gal to the core, and I use this word wayyyy to much).

I heart them.

And Mr. O is officially convinced I have an addiction to Etsy.

It’s OK because our guest table and OOT bags will be cooler because of them. :)

My fellow Etsy-obsessed bees, what’s your FAVORITE purchase from there?

Awesome indeed! Miss Ostrich, you are a Bee after my own heart - the school supply aisles at Target get me every. single. time. I can’t wait to see what else you have in mind for your OOT bags.

oh wow, I am also a ridiculously nerdy fan of school/office supplies (and I too color-coordinated my class notes, all the way through law school!)

I can’t wait to start the Etsy purchases! (Also school supplies-obsessed. In elementary school, the girls collected and traded pencils, erasers, etc… mostly from Sanrio and the like. As a result, I have a large shoebox full of — unsharpened pencils. I can’t bear to part with them.)

Oh I love your school supplies. Those are too cute!
My favorite etsy purchase was a purse, NWR, but I know I’ll be turning to etsy for bridesmaid gifts.

Love the pencils! That takes me back to elementary school when our teachers would gift us custom pencils each year.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who LOVED shopping for school supplies! I was so protective of them too, like um no, you can’t borrow my crayons because youll probably screw them up somehow!

Love the pencils!
