My capability for making a cake topper exists. I have the skills, but I have fallen in love with the work of two Etsy artists which makes me want to shelve my craftiness for this particular piece of wedding decor.

Topper choice number one comes from Etsy seller bthanari

On Top : wedding austin cake decor Il 570x013 Custom Keepsake Wedding Cake Topper with Custom Wedding Dress

I love the sweetness on their faces and the small attentions to detail.

She will customize your order as closely as she can, and could even add glasses for yours truly. The wood round base would go perfectly with the other wood rounds we are contemplating using in the rest of our decor.

My other favorite is by Etsy seller concarta

I looooove paper crafts and this is absolutely gorgeous! What a conversation piece! You can customize through this seller as well. However, I am slightly afraid it would get dirty super fast.

Now, the only drawback to getting one of these cake toppers is that they are…um…expensive. Yep, just a bit pricey there. I was scared of bringing the subject up to Mike because I knew he would get his typical big-eyed look and say, “You want to spend what on a thing that sits on top of a cake?!?” I was pleasantly surprised when he instead said, “It’s something we’ll keep forever. I’m OK with that.”

So, yay! We can get a gorgeous custom cake topper! Now I just need to decide between the two.

Which one would you choose?

I love them both, but I’m especially partial to the first one. It’s just so sweet.

Gorgeous - the second one is really special but the first one is awesome: so personalised and unique. Even me, the cake topper crazyperson, loves it!

I LOVE the first one. But I was also vetoed on adorable expensive cake toppers. Which is fine, because I was mostly anti-cake-topper before I came across those like the first one. I’ll just swoon vicariously. :)

I’m totally in love with the first one! I can’t get over the sweat look on their faces.

As cool as the paper one is, I love love LOVE the wooden one. The faces are sooo sweet, and I love the way it has a whole bunch of mediums (the feather, the fabric, the netting). Super awesome.

I love the first one!!! Plus it’ll last longer and if you’re worried about it getting dirty as you mentioned, the second one would not be a good idea…especially as a long-term display keepsake =)

Wow, I’ve never seen either of those types of cake toppers before. I like the first one just ‘cuz I think you can keep it around for longer and the faces are so unique!

They’re both beautiful, but I love the first one. It has so much personality. :)

I say the first one, because it reminds me of the ones I’m swooning over!

Paper craft is cool, but will it last/stay clean? #1 without a doubt -it’s a beauty, & your future progeny can use it atop their cakes. (We sold our Wilton humorous cake topper, but kept our custom made topper -my sister had it made -on Etsy of course- and she put in on our shower cake. It’s our pups dresses up in wedding attire -wish I could share a pic!)

We have one very similar to the first one, from lollipop workshop on Etsy! They are awesome!

I think they are on holiday right now, but they are worth checking out as well.

I have to tell you that I have never seen a topper that I’ve liked until I saw those wooden ones. They are so beautiful! The expressions on their faces are so sweet. Number two is nice, but my vote is for number one!

My vote is for number 1. I love how it is sooo customizable! She’ll even match your dress!

I also agree with what other people have said, if you want to be able to display it for a long period of time, option 1 is your better choice.
