Mrs. Lioness's Picture
Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!

The Aisle-Walkin’ Soundtrack

December 6th, 2010 @ 6:43 pm by Mrs. Lioness

We decided pretty early on that we wanted to have a DJ at our wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good band at a wedding. But in order to include something as obscure as 311, some good booty-shakin’ music, and some salsa for Mr. Lion’s family, a DJ was a more practical option for us. In addition to reception coverage, our DJ offered ceremony coverage for a very reasonable price. Literally, he made us an offer we couldn’t refuse and I had to say goodbye to my dreams of having a string quartet play as I walked down the aisle. I was briefly bummed out, but then I discovered the Vitamin String Quartet.

Maybe having a DJ play our ceremony music wouldn’t be so bad after all!

Perhaps it was an opportunity to get a little creative with our song selections. I like Canon in D as much as the next bride, but buying some Vitamin String Quartet on iTunes allowed us to be a little more quirky than elegant…which, let’s face it, is more true to who we are! They had everything: Lady Gaga, Coldplay, and of course, these guys:

Then, I started looking around for other string quartet tributes. I stumbled upon this gem and knew it was made for me:

We had found some great options to play as guests were seated, we found some selections for the recessional, but I was still wasn’t sold on the processional. I wanted to walk down the aisle to something that was significant to us, but that also captured the whimsically vintage theme that surrounded our wedding. Something like this:

Ugh, I’m going to be a bawling disaster. How did y’all chose your ceremony tunes? Did you go a more classical route? Or did you pick something more modern?

The DJ we went with made us an offer we couldn’t refuse either. One reasonable price for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Couldn’t pass that up! Plus, a DJ does offers a wider range of song choices like you said.

We just picked our recessional! The last suggestion you had, played it for FH and then he loved it (of course the movie made us both cry)

Oh, how I adore the “Up” music! Too bad it turns me into a weepy mess.

Oh VSQ! My boy DJed a wedding this past summer and used a lot of that at the cocktail hour. They are definitely becoming a trend in hipster weddings.

Anyone else notice how all the Pixar music is just like mindblowingly beautiful? :)

I never even thought about a string quartet of any sort, I always thought the music would be traditional whatever the pianist wanted to play…but now I see a whole new ceremony! Thank you so much for opening my eyes, I think I am slightly obsessed now.

I have heard of VSQ before, but did not know the extent of songs they have covered until just now looking at iTunes. So cool!

Oh I love the All you need is Love song by the Beatles. I wanted it to play during my wedding, but everything got mixed up with the DJ not playing this song. Oh I wish he played it!

Thank you! Thank you!! I didn’t know about this quartet! My favorite band is My Chemical Romance…a little dark for a wedding, but they make their songs so….beautiful. Now I can have My Chem played during dinner (along with other awesome songs)! This is awesome!!

LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! I should though, we used to all VSQ for our wedding. I walked in to Taylor Swift Love Song, walked out to Hey there Delialah and cut the cake to Thriller! All cocktail hour was done by VSQ also, but i dont really remember hearing most of it. Everyone at the reception said it was the perfect music.

I was a VSQ bride too! Our mothers walked in to “sweet child o’ mine,” our WP walked to “hey soul sister,” and I walked to “in your eyes.” Our recessional was “1, 2, 3, 4 (I love you.)” I couldn’t have imagined anything more perfect!
