About Ms. Sloth

Not Just a DOC, but a MOC!

December 7th, 2010 @ 6:37 pm by Ms. Sloth

After I started getting frustrated with my search for wedding flowers, I put the feelers out on Facebook and asked if anyone could recommend a good, reliable, creative, and affordable florist. I know so many people who have been married in or near Philly recently that I figured at least one of my friends would be able to recommend someone.

Well, I did get several suggestions from local friends, but the suggestion that ended up being the best was one from a friend of mine who lives in Oklahoma! T was one of my best friends in high school but we haven’t seen each other in about ten years. We reconnected through Facebook a few years back.

Well, T sent me a private message to let me know that not only is her aunt a wedding florist, but her mother is now a wedding planner! I was really excited to hear this, because the more I thought about it, the more I longed for a Day-Of Coordinator. It wasn’t in the cards or in the budget, but I figured I could speak to T’s mom to see if she could put together a simple a la carte package that we would afford. And when I spoke to her, she said she’d figure out a way to fit into the budget. After all, I spent practically every day at her house after school in the early ’90s!

When I finally met with T’s aunt and mother, I could feel everything falling into place.

T’s aunt said that she could work within my budget and get me the exact flowers we wanted, and T’s mother found a way for us to afford not only day-of Ccoordination but month-of coordination!

Woohoo!

Month-of coordination, you guys! That means that not only will T’s mom be around to help us with the rehearsal and wedding itself, but she’ll be there to help with any last minute projects like assembling DIY projects and finalizing vendor issues. She even offers decor items to borrow—for free—like vases, candle holders, baskets and easels.

I feel a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders. I mean, I know that I could’ve gotten through the wedding day without help, but this way, all I’ll have to do is show up, get married and party!

Did you hire a coordinator? Why or why not?

We are for sure hiring a DOC. We have a friend that is a wedding coordinator and she has offered us a great deal. After attending a few weddings lately and helping set everything up, I realized that I didn’t want the stress of setting up and breaking down everything or putting that pressure on our families. I just wanted to enjoy the day, FH whole heartedly agreed.

I totally hired a DOC. For my sanity and for Mr.E’s. He didn’t see the joy at first but after he talked to some women at work he realized how much less stress and angst it would be for me. Which would make it to so much less stress and angst for HIM. He quickly came to love that decision. ;)

I am a full believer in friendors! And I so wish I could’ve had a DOC, it would’ve made the day so much easier and smoother.

Good work. We decided to hire a DOC to hopefully take stress off ourselves (and my mom) on the day. I’m looking forward to working with her.

I want a DOC but I don’t know if it’s in the budget. I have a couple of friends who say they want to plan the wedding but I don’t know how serious they are. I’m hoping that on of them will step up and actually offer to be the DOC. It would be a weight lifted off my shoulders.

Awesome! We didn’t have a DOC, but our venue offered pretty comprehensive set-up services so it worked out well for us.

That’s awesome. I had a DOC and could not have imagined doing without her.
