The Band Wagon

December 8th, 2010 @ 12:51 pm by Ms Cheetah

Before Mr. Cheetah and I decided to get hitched, I had a crush. I was crushing bad on this ring:

Soon after our engagement was on, I saw my chance to pick up this little beauty as my wedding band. The ring is no longer available online, but lucky for me Tiffany’s was able to ship the ring to one of their LA stores. I visited the store to try that baby on…and it was pretty. But it didn’t rock my pants off. Sort of like red velvet cake without the cream cheese frosting. Good, but not OMGAWESOME.

So after deciding against the ring I started wondering if I needed a wedding band at all. It was my desire to have that ring, not just a wedding band, that lead me to consider it in the first place.

So, in true Cheetah fashion, I began to over-analyze this decision.

Wedding Band Cons

  • The cost.
  • We don’t need it. (I would be fine wearing just my engagement ring)
  • I’m not a huge fan of the way my e-ring looks with a band. I adore my e-ring, and I feel like adding a band looks a little crowded and off (see images below). If I get a wedding ring, I’ll likely just wear it separately.

The Band Wagon : wedding palm springs rings Ring W

The Band Wagon : wedding palm springs rings Ring W01 Using the back of other rings as stand in wedding bands. Not horrible…but not a look I want to rock everyday.

Wedding Band Pros

  • A symbol & memento of the wedding and marriage.
  • Exchanging the rings during the ceremony.
  • Mr. Cheetah wants a wedding ring.
  • So pretty!

Mr. Cheetah has never worn jewelry of any kind, but is very excited about getting a wedding band. He is really excited to have a visual symbol of our marriage with him everyday—and his enthusiasm is contagious. Mr. Cheetah’s wedding band excitement has rubbed off on me as well and it looks like these two Cheetahs will be banded together.

Do you (or will you) and your betrothed wear wedding bands?

First of all, your e-ring is gorgeous and so unique! Buuuuut, the shape of it makes a band difficult. I ADORE the Tiffany’s ring you were crushing on. I love my simple wedding band though - I say you keep looking to see if you find anything you like with your e-ring. It’s fun to try on rings afterall!

Perhaps you can contact a jeweler who can create a personalized band for you that follows the shape of your engagment ring. It doenst have to be anything too flashy either, just a plain band that follows the shape of the ring you already have, that way they can work together!

You could just get a band you really like, that you wear seperate from your e-ring. You don’t always have to wear both at the same time. And your engagement ring is stunning.

OMG, that Tiffany’s ring is AMAZING in the picture, I’m sorry it didn’t rock your world when you saw it in real life…

I had the same issue due to the shape of my ring (cushion cut with halo) and the setting is low enough that a regular band doesn’t sit right…our jeweler was able to make a band that wraps my e-ring (I haven’t seen it yet, but in theory it will look just like a plain band but with a slight curve so it can sit flat against the e-ring). Perhaps you could have a jeweler do something similar? Or wear a plain band on the right hand?

We will both wear wedding bands once we are married. I am worried about what kind of band I should pick though. I don’t want a curved band to go around my e-ring because what if I wear the band just by itself, then it would look funny. But I don’t know if I want a straight band because then it may rub against my prongs. Its a tough decision.

Your e-ring is so beautiful and the shape is so nice that I can’t see any band doing it justice. Just my two cents though.

I just can’t see anything being cooler/more awesome than your engagement band! I also have a super unique engagement ring, and wear it on my right hand with a simple but unique (octagon shaped) wedding band on my left hand. Then, if I want to go all simple and incognito, I can just not wear my engagement ring on my right hand. Works out well for me.

My halo allows my band to lay underneath it and matches the rows of diamonds on the e-ring, allowing for a luuuuvly anniversary gift to match on the other side…someday.

I think you could find a local jewler to make a ring for you that would shadow the shape of your gorgous E-ring. If it looks like “too much” for every day…wear it on special occasions when larger jewelry would be more appropriate. I love your E-ring btw.

Wow! Your e-ring is absolutely stunning!! I’m sorta voting to just stick with the e-ring as your wedding band…I’ve known a few people that have done this and it def works.

my husband and i both wore engagement rings (and mine is an irregular shape which would be hard to match up with another ring) and decided instead of getting wedding rings, we would exchange our engagement rings at the ceremony … and then we got matching tattoos that go underneath our engagement rings. it’s not for everyone, but we love that our “rings” never come off :)

Love the bands, and we have ‘em, yep. Mr. Taco loved that part of getting married! He loves his, which is adorable.

I adore your engagement rent. What if you where your wedding band on your right hand and your e-ring on your left? Who says they have to be touching to be meaningful? Btw, wedding rings of any kind are worn on the right hand in some countries. I know two American women who do it here in VA, too!

Sorry Cheetah, I’m so obviously listening to music while typing…. corrections: I adore your engagement ring, not rent. And… what if you wear, not where, your wedding band on your right hand?

cheetah, your e-ring takes my breath away….it’s such a showstopper. we’re currently wedding band shopping and while mr. o has never worn a ring in his life, he’s excited to make this one his first. looking forward to see what you guys pick!

Always knew we’d both wear bands, but much like you, I hit a roadblock when I couldn’t find anything I liked against my e-ring. To make it more difficult, the ring needed to look good with and without the e-ring next to it. We took our time making a decision and are happy with the direction we’re headed in. Guess the moral is: don’t force yourself into making a decision; let it happen organically.

We’re planning on wearing bands - it was more fun than I thought to pick em out!

But ohmygosh, your e-ring is totally gorgeous! Holy moly! I love it! SO pretty!

My e-ring has large prongs that made picking a wedding band difficult. I was not in love with ANY of the curved bands, but nothing else really fit right and I REALLY wanted a wedding band. We picked the one we liked best out of the curved bands and it looks nice with my e-ring, but months after the wedding I’ve come to realize I don’t LOVE it. Don’t settle. If it doesn’t rock your pants off now, it won’t months or years later.

We’re not getting wedding bands at all. We both have engagement rings, and that’s enough for us, and I also have a ring that would be hard to pair up with a band. Either way sounds like a good option though.

My e-ring is a wide-ish band with three rows of diamonds (2 pave and one channel) with interesting detail in between. I LOVE it and don’t want another band for the wedding. I’ll get my FI a band and he’ll give me my e-ring back at the wedding. I never thought twice about it…but so many people are suggesting that I’m lacking something if I don’t add another ring. Nope. The ring I have beautifully symbolizes everything I want it to!

Your ring is gorgeous–I think it stands alone!
