Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.
About Mrs. Knitting

Growing up, the month the December was spent sitting in our living room eating clementines, watching our Christmas tree lights flicker, while listening to Raffi’s Christmas Album.

Yes, Raffi is Making an Appearance : wedding music toronto Raffi01 Source

I’m not sure how old I was when my parents bought this record (that’s right, this was pre-CDs) but it may have been around the time I was born. My sisters and I loved this album and used to dance around the living room to it when we were toddlers. As we got older, the dancing lessened (a bit!), and the record became a CD version, but we still loved this CD. This album really is Christmas for me.

Obviously, we needed to find some way to include it into our wedding. I didn’t want to use all of it, because it is a kids’ album (and it’s shockingly not Mr. Knitting’s favourite), but I definitely needed to include part of it. We decided to go with one of my favourite songs that has definitely featured heavily in dancing around the living room sessions:

There are more beautiful Christmas carols out there, but you can bet my sisters and I will be belting this out when it comes on. We know every word.

What songs really exemplify Christmas or your favourite winter holiday for you?

My dad got the Kitty Wells Christmas album in a grade school grab bag exchange. He has moved with that record for over 50 years… it is the only Christmas record in his collection, so every Christmas morning he would turn it on and it was our sign that we could finally get out of bed and run to the tree!

Holy moly I can’t believe I’m not alone. Raffi lovers unite! I can’t view whatever you posted that contains the song (thanks work firewall) but I know this album well and know any song you picked from it will be perfect!

LOVE this! Raffi was a big part of my childhood, and we listen to that Christmas album every year at my parents’ house just for old times’ sake! Another fave is Mannheim Steamroller, particularly this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXkymHrZyFo ! I love holiday traditions, and music is a big part of that for me! :)

Aw, I love that song too! Our family’s tradition was Alabama’s Christmas album. I love Thistlehair the Christmas bear!

As soon as I saw that album cover, I nearly spit Diet Coke all over my computer & now I’m spending the rest of my afternoon digging around in the basement trying to find my copy ;) Haven’t thought of this in YEARS, thank you!!

Did you know that Bob Dylan redid this last year on his Christmas album? Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8qE6WQmNus

I LOVE RAFFI TOOOOOO
Though I’ve always just listened to his album Singable Songs For the Very Young (which coincidentally includes Must Be Santa thank you very much). OMG love it

We used to listen to that ALL THE TIME! We had it on tape too, and like my brilliant friend Miss Sox, the classic French “Petit Papa Noel” is still my favorite!

I LOVE THIS! This is my family’s absolute favorite Christmas album. Even now as adults, and I can’t believe so many other people know this album too! And….my husband just doesn’t get it…sad. My personal favorite is Douglas Mountain.
I love that you are including this at your wedding!

Ha! Raffi! The concert I went to as a kid, was the highlight of my pre-adolescent life. And to bring the dedication to a whole new level, I even named my dog after him (what can I say they both have scruffy black beards)!

I loved Raffi! But we never had the Christmas album.

The album that really makes me think of Christmas at home is one by Neil Diamond - we had it on tape.
