Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

Mama Hippo recently dug out some old pictures for my “Then and Now” post, and in addition to the embarrassingly awkward high school pictures, she sent along some pictures of me and Sister Hippo as kids. It made me realize that I haven’t told you all about Sister Hippo, aka MOH Hippo. How cute is she?!???

Just in case it’s not clear, Sister Hippo is the one looking completely adorable in that photo; I’m the one that looks like a frightened mole.

Mama Hippo is such an awesome seamstress, and she made a ton of our clothes as kids. We either had completely matching outfits, or the same outfit, but in different colors. Like this…

At some point, Sister Hippo and I moved away from Mama Hippo’s handmade clothing and were able to shop for gems like these:

Gotta love the ’80s.

Sister Hippo and I are 2 1/2 years apart and have lived in separate cities since I was 15. We both moved out of state for college and then started our careers, neither of us returning to the state we grew up in. Even though we have lived very separate lives as adults, there was never any question about who would be my maid of honor (actually, she’s now a matron of honor, since she got married a year and a half ago). Sister Hippo is my one and only sister, and having her next to me as I marry the love of my life seems like the only option. I just couldn’t picture it any other way.

Was choosing your MOH as easy for you as it was for me?

LOL! These photos are so cute, especially the frightened mole pic!

My MOH story is a lot like yours. One of my sisters (16 months younger) is my MOH, and it was really easy to choose her. We were always partners in crime growing up, so even though we parted ways during college, we still have that intense sisterly bond.

so cute! I’m lucky enough to be in the same situation. My sister is 6 years older than me and it’s always been a given she’ll be my MOH. She’s my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way :)

You guys are so cute! Choosing my MOH was an easy choice because it’s my sister–she’s the best!

She’s a year younger than me and we were like twins growing up. Much like you and your sister, my mom dressed us in coordinating clothes and I swear we had the exact same hairdo as you guys in your second pic when we were that age. :)

adorable pics!! I don’t have sisters, but my MOH choice was still just as easy - I actually have 2, my best friends from growing up (literally, we’ve known each other since birth as all of our parents were in a supper club together even before any of us were born) so they might as well be my sisters. they are both married already and had the other 2 of us as MOHs, so it was a no brainer for me to do the same!

I just had to say that my brother and I have a picture when we were little with that same type of background as your first picture. Too cute!

You realize we are all still laughing because you said you look like a frightened mole, right? I mean, right?

Okay seriously, these pictures are great. Even the frightened mole. *snicker*

Oh Miss Hippo, I have been having just the most overwhelming and sad day ever and your frightened mole picture made me laugh so hard, it’s the cutest thing EVER. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You two are so cute! Pictures from the late 80s/early 90s are THE BEST for “Hmm, and this is when I decided Six from ‘Blossom’ was the best fashion role model EVER”

Frightened mole might just be the funniest term I’ve ever heard! I love it.

I still haven’t picked my MOH. I am an only child and my only girl cousins are just that, girls. Neither of them are old enough for that responsibility. I think I have made a decision but ask me tomorrow and I will say the same thing with a different person in mind.

Love your descriptions! My MOH is also my sister (though younger) and there are way too many horribly-dressed pictures of us as well. Neon was a favorite, I recall.

Wow - how did I miss seeing this until now? Frightened mole - ha ha! Well, you’ve turned out to be absolutely beautiful, and it was just as easy for me to pick you as my MOH. xoxo
