Lovely Tonight: The Processional

December 12th, 2010 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Buttons

It was show time. Our guests were seated, and the doors to the ceremony space were about to be opened.

I do want to take a moment to bring up an aspect of our ceremony that was very important to me: the music. Music, in general, is so important to me, and I wanted to make sure that from the moment our guests arrived until the moment the recessional song played, our ceremony music would be cohesive and set the appropriate mood.

30 minutes before the ceremony began, our DJ started playing the following songs:

  • Wedding Dress – Matt Nathanson
  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Jason Castro
  • Everything – Michael Buble
  • You & Me – Dave Matthews Band
  • I’d Rather Be With You – Joshua Radin

When the last notes of Joshua Radin’s song faded out, our DJ transitioned into the song I had selected for our parents and family to be seated to: When You Come Back Down by Nickel Creek

My cousin J escorted my grandma down the aisle first.

They were followed by my grandparents from my dad’s side.

Mr. Buttons’ parents walked down the aisle next.

Next up: Mommy Buttons, escorted by my handsome little brother.

Once our family members were seated, the music transitioned to Iron and Wine’s Love and Some Verses.

The groomsmen made their way down the aisle first, followed by Mr. Buttons and our officiant.

If you’re wondering…no this is not Mr. Buttons—it is his identical twin!

We had four groomsmen in our bridal party (and a groom…), but no pictures seem to exist of their walk down the aisle! C’est la vie.

My lovely ladies were next! BM A went first…

BM K was next in line…

She was followed by BM L, who wins the award for most adorable ensemble (seriously…the necklace, the headband…can she be any cuter? I think not).

Last, but not least, was MOH L.

Our little scene stealers came next. Ring bearer I did a fantastic job at walking down the aisle; he was so handsome in his ensemble!

Three-year-old Flower Girl A had been waiting patiently for her turn…

Her mom handed her the pomander I had created for her and we waited for her musical cue. Then with a gentle nudge, she was on her way!

A didn’t just walk down the aisle; she hopped/skipped! She was on a mission…

She made sure to give a quick wave to her adoring fans, of course!

At this point, all but two had made it down the aisle…our guests were ready for my entrance.

It was time.

I have a random question. Do you know the name of the green leaves in their bouquets & hanging from the mantel of the fireplace? I’m going to DIY my flowers & have to order everything myself, and that’s the exact type of greenery that I’m looking for!
Thanks so much for your help!

Looks like Eucalyptus to me in some of the bouquets, I used it in our florals too- we have several trees in a park near our house, so I just clipped a whole bunch for our wedding. It smelled great!

@Mustang: @lemondrop: Correct! It is seeded eucalyptus (at least in the bouquets). I’m pretty sure that my florist put the seeded euc on our mantle as well, but I’ll be honest - I just told her to put greenery that matched across the mantle and didn’t specify a particular type of leaf. I imagine that its the same though!

were you able to play both songs fully or did you shorten them?

@hayleybear: Good question - we weren’t able to get all the way through “When You Come Back Down;” our DJ faded the song out after my mom and brother sat down…at the end of a verse/chorus. We did make it all the way through “Love and Some Verses” though since we had 4 groomsmen, the groom/officiant, 4 bridesmaids, flower girl, and ring bearer all walking separately!

Ack, you are such a tease to stop your story right before you walked down the aisle. Eagerly awaiting your next post!
