A Showery Surprise

December 13th, 2010 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Earrings

Last Friday I was surprised with a honeymoon themed bridal shower! My mum and MOH were sneaky and tricked me into thinking it would be on Saturday, but on Friday I was told to get prettified and be ready to be picked up in one hour. Then I was taken to the nearby Washbourne Gardens, where I found this setup:

Recognize the framed photo? It’s one of our engagement pics. :)

Both mum and MOH Earrings had never planned a bridal shower before, but they know I love details, so they spent a lot of time researching online for inspiration and I think the results were perfect!

My “throne”

We dined on various cheeses, grapes, berries, and sweets, and enjoyed the one sunny day in the middle of a wet week. MOH Earrings started us off with a couple of icebreaker games. The first one involved each person cutting a length of string, but we didn’t know what the string was for yet. Then we were told we had to go around the circle and each person would tell details about themselves for as long as it took to wind their piece of string around their finger. The people who cut short lengths were the lucky ones!

Of course, I cut a long piece of string…so this is me trying to think of more things to say

Another game involved me answering questions about Mr E to see how well I really know him. If I got one right, I got a chocolate. Some of the questions were hard! I didn’t know his least favourite vegetable (he has too many least favourite veggies) and I got his pant size wrong because he has recently lost weight! But I’m pretty pleased that I got Mr E’s favourite airport and airline right (Singapore Airport and British Airways). Though some people found it odd that he even had a favourite airport—I guess it shows that he has traveled all his life!

The Interrogation

Then it was time to open presents. Everyone gave me something that was honeymoon related. I was a tad worried that someone might give me something more risque than I was willing to open in front of a bunch of ladies from church, but luckily the most risque item was a bottle of massage oil. :P

In case anyone wants to know, I ended up wearing my Modcloth dress. My shoes are from Ruche.

MOH diligently recording who gave what gift. She learned about doing that on a blog and was very pleased with herself for remembering! :)

My mum and sister decided to make the shower honeymoon themed because Mr E and I have registered for kitchen stuff for our wedding, and they felt like honeymoon related gifts would be a good way to spoil both Mr E and me. I would really recommend this theme to anyone who is planning a bridal shower for someone. Depending on where the couple might be going for their honeymoon, the couple could be showered with things like cash to put towards a fancy dinner out, scented candles, chocolates, etc.

My favourite gift? The cupcake passport holder and luggage tag my Mum and sisters gave me. They make me hungry every time I look at them. :)

The shower finished up with everyone writing either their favourite memory of me or a piece of marriage advice on a slip of paper and putting it in a jar for me to read later. The advice “Don’t go to bed angry” came up multiple times, so that is the one that has stuck in my head!

Sunshine + Relaxed Ladies + Oodles of food = a perfect shower

My sisters (MOH Earrings and Bridesmaid O) and I at home right after the shower. Um, and somehow we all ended up barefoot…

Has anyone else had a honeymoon themed shower? What were some games or special touches that made it memorable?

You and your dress are both so cute! I love that your entourage “read up” on how to do the shower.

A honeymoon shower is a great idea. Yours looks so sweet - what thoughtful family and friends! And what do you mean that everyone doesn’t have a favorite airport and airline…
