Mrs. Jam, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Associate Wedding Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Structural Engineer Engagement Date: December 23, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Hunter’s Ridge, Princeton, IL About Me: I’m a penny-pinching cat lady getting ready to marry the frugal dog lover of my dreams. Our ideal Saturday morning includes rummaging around people’s junk at garage and estate sales followed by an afternoon date to our favorite café, where we only eat sandwiches that include the word “salad.” We actually love it so much, it’s sort of our unofficial wedding theme: Look at our delicious finds, eat homemade ham salad, and celebrate our love…barndance style. When we’re not obsessing over our love-fest shindig, we’re planning themed parties for our best friends and jamming to '90s music.
About Mrs. Jam

Look no further for unique accessories, Chicago dwellers. Have I got a hot spot for you!

I went thrifting a few months ago with a fellow bride-to-be who I’ve known forever and just happens to be getting married two weeks before Mr. Jam and me. We share an obsession for all things vintage and, since our engagements, all things wedding related. Luckily, we are just a train ride away from the most uh-mazing vintage shop in the city.

Vintage Underground, folks. Remember that name.

If you’re strolling by their location outside of store hours, you might not even know it’s there. All that can be seen from the street is a basement window filled with a few vintage goodies, but once you get inside (and like the name says, go underground), you find yourself in a freaking treasure trove.

Talk about a gorgeous-jewelry-and-clothes-and-everything-else OVERLOAD.

OK, so clearly they have a ton (A. TON.) of vintage jewelry. Their selection almost overwhelmed me, and I found myself wandering around like a zombie with my mouth open, a glazed look in my eyes. Luckily, the shop was really well organized, and the fabulous owners, Ellen and Carlos, knew about every single piece displayed and were armed with helpful suggestions.

So why am I writing about this particular shop? That answer is easy: The prices are uber reasonable, and they love to work with wedding parties.

What more could you really want in this world?!

Just look at that delicious color coordination! After my years of collecting quality vintage jewelry, this shop is my favorite, hands down. And even though I bought three things, my pocketbook was far from empty, making me the hip-happiest bride-to-be ever.

It’s not necessarily vintage, but you Chicagoans (Chicagites?) should check out my favorite jewelry store in the city, Nakamol.

I wandered into Vintage Underground one random Saturday night, and they were giving away free PBR. I thought I was hallucinating. Best store ever.

We have a shop like that here too. I don’t even think it has a name, other than the name of the building it’s in. But you go down to the basement and WHAM-O!

I am OBSESSED with vintage jewerly! I’m even having a brooch / earing boquet instead of flowers! My main source has been my grandmother, she was a collector of all things sparkly back in the day!

Oooh, thank you times a billion! I adore vintage, and the FI and I try to make it down to Chicago (a mere hour and fifteen or so minutes away) as often as possible! I only wish we knew about it when we were there last week!
