When my phone rings, if I don’t recognize the number, I don’t pick up.
I hate asking people for directions or asking for help in a store.
If someone knocks on our front door unexpectedly and Mr. S isn’t home, I will literally sit silently until the visitor finally gives up, clasping the dog to my chest with one hand over his mouth so that he won’t bark and give me away.
I don’t like talking to strangers.

This has made wedding planning difficult. Given my druthers, I’d plan the entire shebang without speaking to a single human being—e-mail all the way. Of course, this is impossible. For something like a wedding, one doesn’t want to book vendors without meeting them in person.
So it’s been a real challenge for me (and for Mr. S who is as anti-social as I am). Sometimes I want to get down on my hands and knees and thank the universe for the Internet because if I were living in the dark ages (i.e., 1995 or earlier), we’d just elope! I love that at least the preliminary research can be done online. It makes things much easier for an introvert like myself.
We found every single one of our vendors online, and because we hate talking to strangers, we often booked the first vendor we met with. For example, after meeting with our photographers, we liked them enough to give up the search. Same goes with our caterer. We spoke to a bunch of them but booked the only one we met in person. I recently mentioned how, although I was ready to book the first florist I spoke with, I ended up having to go on an extensive search, both on the phone and in person, and, quite frankly, it sucked.
The worst was when we were trying to reserve a block of hotel rooms for our guests. Our wedding is on the same day as the graduation day of one of the local universities, and the entire city of Philadelphia is booked solid. I couldn’t find a single hotel with availability online, so I had to spend many, many hours calling hotels.
This was me:

My personal hell would be an eternity of talking to strangers. Sloth no likey.
So thank you, Internet, for making wedding planning a relatively painless endeavor. Yes, I’d prefer to plan the whole thing in my pajamas from my living room and not speak to a soul, but when I think of how much worse it could have been, I’m just thankful for technology.
Are you an introvert, or did you enjoy meeting with wedding vendors in person?
