Boudoir Photos? What’s the Deal?

December 14th, 2010 @ 3:06 pm by Mrs. Pancakes

I’m no prude.

I understand the appeal of boudoir photos.

I understand the appeal of memorializing your body when it’s looking so fantastic.

I understand that Mr. Pancakes would LOVE to get these as a wedding present.

What I don’t understand is what do you do with boudoir photos?

I’m not Samantha Jones. I don’t think I could hang a picture like that in my living room. I certainly don’t think I’m self-centered enough to even hang it in my bedroom.

Regardless, I think some of these photos are not just sexy, but really gorgeous. Here are some of my favorite boudoir photos:

Are you going to take boudoir photos? If you are, what are you going to do with them?

I didnt (and wont) be doing them. I asked DH if he would like this and he didnt understand why I would give him a book of pictures of me when he would rather just have ME! Also - you should put a NSFW warning on this post! I didnt think the first picture was too scandalous and then I opened the post and boy did I have to look over my shoulder quick!

Totally agree with the whole, what do I do with them? I mean, they’re lovely, but honestly, I wouldn’t do it. And I think FI would just be a bit confused if I gave him a book with boudoir pictures.

I’ve already done one session, and I’m super excited to do another! My best friend dabbles in photography, and we had talked about it for a while before I finally did it last month. Not only will it be a great gift for my FI (which I’m going to give him a velvet bound book with some naughty photos for when he travels, or we’re away), but they’re also great to just have. I don’t have the greatest self-esteem when it comes to my body, but I really look great in these pictures, and it really upped my confidence and comfort in my body.

Plus, when I’m eighty and wrinkly, it’ll sure be nice to look back when I wasn’t so much :)

I had them put into a little book - not quite an album, more like a flipbook. DH keeps them in his nightstand. I don’t know what good that does, except I know where they are when I decided to proudly pass the book around to my friends. I actually asked him a couple of times if he ever looks at them and he said yes so I guess that’s all I can ask for.

@PitBulLover: hehehe. Sorry!

href=”#comment-1311050″>CuppinKeix: That’s awesome. I almost like the idea of doing it for yourself more than the idea of doing it for a man. (*Or even better, a little of both ;) )

I have the same thought! I generally like the idea, and I think FI would enjoy seeing them, but I definitely don’t think I would hang prints in the house anywhere and I wasn’t sure if a book for him is really worth it? I’m still debating - so glad to hear someone else is on the same page!

I took some and I will be making a calendar for him. We have our own house and room so I suppose we will hang it there. We don’t have much company so it’s not a big deal. Otherwise I think he will keep them for keepsakes. Who knows maybe I will have to go out of town on business and he will want a reminder. Can’t hurt!

I don’t think I could or would ever do this. “Look honey, here are nearly naked photos I let someone else take of me!” Maybe if I let Mr. Spaniel take the pictures? ;)

I do get the reasons why people do them… I just couldn’t! Then again, I *am* a prude. ;)

i took them- and they’re in a little book in my bf’s desk drawer that no one else could see but him. i actually had my sister (who isn’t a professional photographer or anything) take them, i wouldn’t have splurged on a professional. when he opened the gift, he thought it was a scrapbook at first until he opened the actual book. he loved it! i understand pitbulLover’s point of why have a book when you have the real thing? but to my guy, just seeing me in outfits/positions that he doesn’t normally get to see me in- captured in a photograph- was such a thrilling thing for him. he looked at all the photos and the first thing he said wasn’t that i was “hot” or “sexy”, it was that i was beautiful. so worth it!

@Mrs. Spaniel: oooh spaniel, after receiving his book my guy asked me if we could take them again, except with him behind the camera. i think it would be such a fun, intimate thing for a couple to do together!

I like the idea of it, just not sure it is in the budget. I know my FI would love it.

Definitely no prints anywhere in the house, but I plan on making him a little flip book. :) He LOVES the idea, just made me promise I’d go with a female photographer lol.

I gave mine to Hubby in an album. It lives in his nightstand. As I’m quite pregnant these days, I probably enjoy looking at them as much as Hubby does now. And, like CuppinKeix said, I’ll be bragging about them when I’m 80. It’ll be a coffee table book then. :)

I did my shoot last month and am giving my DH a book of the shots for our anniversary this weekend.
It really depends on the style of photography you do - mine was more of a Pin-up inspired shoot (less naked, more cheeky smiles) so I’m getting some prints to use in our home and some to put on cards for friends
but then - this is what they look like

i did a non-professional boudoir shoot once with my friend taking the pics, with a christmas theme wearing only a red thong, a santa hat, and some strategically placed garland lol. they came out really cute! they were (obviously) a christmas gift for my boyfriend (now husband). i just put them in a book. i would LOVE to do a professional shoot tho! and, if we’re really being honest with ourselves, these shoots are for us, not our guys. i think we all share at least THAT in common with Samantha, if not the exhibitionist streak ;)

I definitely will be doing them for my FI. I have modeled for friends in the past, and professionally as well. I’ve always been very creative, and it appeals to that part of me. My FI is a photographer, so he loves the idea. It’s a nice keepsake. If I’m on a shoot (I’m a filmmaker) then he’ll have something to look at and think of while I’m gone. :)

my husband has no interest in this type of thing so it would have been a waste for me to do them.
