Mrs. Ostrich, San Francisco/Hawaii Age and Occupation: 30, Fashion Buyer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 38, Copywriter Engagement Date: October 4, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Sweet ceremony by the sea and sunset celebration on the North Shore of Hawaii About Me: Born in the city of angels and residing in the city by the bay, I’m a fearless fashion buyer by day, a passionate blog author by night and a dreamy bride-to-be in between. I thank my lucky stars to live in such a stunning city that gives me gifts like organic honey lavender ice cream, movie nights in the park, tucked away beaches, legendary record stores, '80s dance parties, awesome sports teams, stellar flea markets, and vintage bookshops. Oh, and I love to dance! We always find every excuse to escape to the beach, and decided a little seaside wedding in Hawaii is our idea of bliss. Full of our favorite people, music, food and sparkly lights, this is one sunset celebration we will always remember.

Swag Bag : wedding favors hawaii Paradis1 paradis

(source: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,)

Bees, I need your help.

Mr. Ostrich and I are ready to pick the good stuff for our OOT bags. Our fam and friends will be traveling far and wide to celebrate us in April and the very least we can do is welcome them, after a looong flight, with some tasty treats and thoughtful bits during their week in paradise.

This little collage shows some of the things Mr. O and I have come up with so far, based on both our experiences as DW guests and knowing our friends and fam and what they might be craving/forget to bring:

The Ostrich Wedding Swag Bag

  1. sunscreen
  2. agua (because the minibar water is crazy pricey)
  3. hangover (err, first aid) kit: (Advil, Emergen-C, Band-Aids)
  4. a fun, reusable tote (we’ll be DIYing ours, stay tuned for that post!)
  5. yum yum yummy Hawaiian cookies (coconut, Kona coffee and mango shortbread)
  6. ostrich welcome letter & wedding event schedule
  7. Hawaii - ostrich style, a customized guidebook/map of our favorite things
  8. mango flavored chewing gum
  9. Hawaiian potato chips

So this is where you come in…if (and when) you’ve traveled to a destination wedding, what have been the most awesome things in your OOT bag? Treats? Candles? Sleeping eye masks? We want to give our guests a little bit of what they need and delight them with what they’d love, too! And I have a good feeling your favorite things would be a hit with our guests, too. :)

And for my fellow DW brides, what goodies did you surprise your guests with?

One of the things we included was a postcard with a stamp so our guests could easily send a card without hunting for stamps and a magnet to help them remember where they’d been. We also had sunscreen, potato chips, water, and candy.

I always love having snacks. I’m not ah uge fan of vending machine snacks, so it’s alays a nice treat to have something special from the bride and groom upon arrival. We decided to just do treats, water, a welcome note, schedule of events and restaurant recommendations.

The restaurant recs were a huge hit! So many guests told us which places they tried and then went on to give us reviews. It was super fun.

I think whatever you pick, your guests will love it, all of your options look adorable. The Hawaiin cookeis shaped liek pineapples are perfect!

Those cookies are addictive! If there was a store anywhere near where I was, I always (*always*) walked in to snag a few samples. One of the great things about Hawaii is the lei, and I was disappointed to find out you don’t automatically get one when you get off the plane. Thankfully, fiance was on the ball and had one waiting for me at baggage claim. I know the flowers are expensive and die soon, but maybe the shell or the nut ones?

How about a filtered water bottle instead of the bottle of water? I’ve seen them at GNC and Amazon.

Taro chips are good too, or maybe a Matsumoto’s t-shirt since you’ll be on the North Shore?

I know you already have a guide of your favorite things but -local culture explanations, must dos and eats! I hate feeling like an outsider and love getting a taste of the local stuff. What food should I try? What’s on that’ll give me a taste of the island? Anything of historical significance in the area?

We did - water bottles, Hawaiian chips, macadamia nut chocolates, Hawaiian vintage postcards (for our guestbook), advil, band aids (people actually needed them), purell, welcome letter - in a reusable tote bag which people took to the beach.

I would maybe say aloe vera instead of the sunscreen? Many people tend to be picky about what sort of sunscreen/lotion they use, and I know I can easily burn even when I am so good about applying sunscreen! And I know it’s more expensive, but what about a reusable water bottle?
All the munchies look so delicious!

When we got married in Hawaii we put in some of those brochure magazines and coupon books for different activities on the island. Our guests got to try some other activities and saved some money too!
