Embracing My Inner Girlie Girl

December 14th, 2010 @ 11:36 am by Ms. Sloth

When it comes to fashion, I’m not girlie at all. I prefer edgy to delicate, and I’ve never been a fan of wearing pastels, especially pink. It’s just not my thing.

So imagine my surprise when I was browsing the web and fell in love with what are possibly the girliest, pinkest shoes ever.

They’re the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Ultragirl V. And they are pink. They look like Barbie shoes. They’re jellies, for Christ’s sake. All in all, they are pretty ridiculous. But for some reason, I couldn’t stop staring at them. They’re so not me, but I was smitten.

The thing is, I already have shoes. I bought them for $15 before I even had my dress, and I love them, too. They’re pink as well, but a darker, funkier pink. To refresh your memory:

I love these, too. A lot. I can’t wait to wear them. So why couldn’t I get those Barbie shoes out of my mind?

I forced myself to forget about them, though. I didn’t need them! And then…

And then, for Hanukkah, I got a Zappos gift card.

And then, I ordered the shoes.

And I love them.

I still love my $15 shoes, and I plan on wearing them for as long as I can on our wedding day. But I own them in two other colors, and after wearing them for a few hours, they start to pinch. This way, I’ll have flats to change into.

Pink, girlie flats.

Did you find yourself coveting out-of-character fashion items when putting together your wedding ensemble?

I adore them!!! As one who loves me some girlie shoes and jellies.. I would definitely “break them in” sometimes jellies can cause more blisters than normal shoes

Are those comfortable? I’ve actually considered buying a pair in a different color :).

Are they also scented like the other Vivienne jelly shoes?!

Well, on the up side - those are *totally* wearable again (both pairs!). Rock them with a pair of dark wash straight leg jeans, and you’ve got something good going on :-). I wore a pair of funky peacock blue suede pointy-toe flats for my wedding, and can’t stop wearing them now. Love that I am reminded of my wedding every time I slip them on!

See my icon. I have never owned (and will never again own) shoes as girly as these. They may not be pink, but the flowers and lace I would normally abhor just slay me for some reason.

Definitely take a day to wear them out and about. Jellies have the worst habit of feeling like the most comfortable shoes ever when you first put them on, but quickly turn into the worst shoes ever (blisters) once you wear them for a while. Hope this isn’t the case for these cuties:)

They are super cute! I’ve never been able to get over the idea, though, that jellies seem like they would be super painful. Are they comfortable? Make sure to test drive them!

They’re actually surprisingly comfy, and the inside is soft, somehow. I can’t really explain it.

I agree with Spaniel, sometimes jellies cut into my skin. Make sure to wear them in so you don’t have blisters! They are cute though, I dig the bow.

Unnecessary snark is unnecessary. I’m gonna go put on my non-smelly, fake Crocs and go grab the mail now…

I love them! Same question as Miss Jam — is it true that they smell like marshmallows?!

@Miss Jam: @Miss Panther: No, they actually smell sort of weird and chemical-y (is that a word?) but I’m hoping that if I air them out for the next five months, they’ll be okay.

OMG, I just realized why I love these shoes so much. They’re Nars Orgasm-colored!

@Miss Panther: Oooooh, they ARE. That kind of ruins my plans of wearing my Orgasm nail polish, because it’s too matchy-matchy.
