Hive, we have our teaser engagement photos from our photographer! All photos in this post are by Fotograffika.
I haven’t talked too much about picking a photographer, but basically I made a bookmark folder and bookmarked anything that I found in town that I liked. I set up appointments with two of them, and we went. After that, Cinnamon Buns asked to see my bookmarks and made us appointments with a couple more. After our meeting with the Fotograffika duo, Cinnamon Buns and I walked back to the car, and as soon as our doors were closed, I said, “I want to be friends with them!” I like them both; they had actually just gotten engaged, so we talked weddings in general for a lot of our meeting, and I liked their photography.
The down payment for them was the first big wedding money we’d spent, and I’m not going to lie—I was a little scared and might have had a small panic attack of “OMG WHAT IF WE’RE WRONG WHAT IF OUR PHOTOS SUCK OMG MONEY.” But some online friends talked me down from that one. I wouldn’t have bookmarked them if I didn’t like their work, right? And Cinnamon Buns liked their work enough to set up an appointment, and he liked them enough to want to book them, too. It was scary at the time, but now I see that I was just a little freaked out because it was the first money we had spent. So don’t worry if everything suddenly seems scary and big and you have doubts that you’d never had before. It’s probably sticker shock from writing that cheque. ![]()
I’m so excited to see more! I brought my favourite book, the copy of The Hobbit that Dad read to me when I was four and was once his. It’s the first “chapter book” I ever read, and I love how old and worn it is. Cinnamon Buns brought his copy of The Hobbit as well. We sat on a blanket and read our books together, just like our first date.
It looks sunny, but it was pretty cold, so we alternated between coats and no coats. Luckily, I like this winter coat, so it was OK. ![]()
This last one is my absolute favourite and makes me so happy I went to get my hair done! I didn’t have much choice in salons, either—the normal place both of us go is closed Sundays, but the owner said she’d come in and do my hair, until she realised she was out of town that weekend! I immediately started searching for other hair salons that were open early enough on a Sunday for me to be at our photoshoot location by 10 a.m.! I found one, Swizzlesticks Salon & Spa, that opened at 9 a.m. Sunday is their “new talent” day, when the less experienced stylists are the only ones working (with a supervisor), so I was a little apprehensive, but it turned out awesome!
