About Mrs. French Toast

I took a whiff of the humid air and sipped some juice from the young coconut. The palm trees behind us were swaying back and forth, and the waves of the ocean set the stage surrounding the tropical oasis.

Sitting across from me at breakfast on this particular morning in Phuket, Thailand was a Wall Street guru turned travel writer. We were traveling as part of a media group, and this was our second morning on the beautiful island.

We were talking about the new book he was writing, and he mentioned that his wife was his source of inspiration. Then he asked me if I was engaged yet. I chuckled and said “no” (at the time I wasn’t) and proceeded to tell him about my dream proposal. (Remember? The one over dinner?)
He smiled and said that he proposed to his wife in the morning, and that was the best decision he made. For starters, he was able to shake off his nerves by getting it over with in the morning. Instead of calling it a night and going home for bed, they were able to enjoy the excitement of being newly engaged for the entire day.

He made a very good point about the proposal being in the morning. Little did I know, Mr. French Toast was back in the States secretly plotting his proposal to me…

Did your fiancé propose in the morning or evening? How did you spend the rest of the time after the proposal?

I think a morning proposal is so sweet! My fiance proposed at night time. But in his defense, he didn’t know he was going to do it until about 3 hours before he did it. I don’t think nerves were really an issue for him.

Also.. lucky you! Phuket, Thailand is at the top of my list of beautiful places to visit.

Yes! Morning proposals are awesome. We got engaged on a morning hike around 10:30–it was so fun to spend the day sipping champagne and calling our closest to share the news. I don’t think there is a “bad” time, but Saturday morning meant the whole weekend was spent celebrating. Yippee!

My FI proposed to me the morning of Thanksgiving. He was up bright and early, pacing around the house while I unknowingly took advantage of the day off and slept in.

After the proposal, we were able to spend the entire day with family - the afternoon with his and then after a three hour drive (already planned) the evening with mine! It was the PERFECT day to propose!!!

My husband proposed when I got home from work on New Year’s Eve. We had made dinner reservations for a restaurant in the City, and he had initially planned to do it then, but while he sat around the house waiting for me to get home, his nerves got to him and he realized he couldn’t wait anddidn’t want to do it in public. So when I got home from work, there were rose petals on the floor and he proposed after I followed the trail up to our bedroom. Afterwards, we spent the evening celebrating with a fancy dinner and the NYE countdown.

My husband proposed in our apt kitchen at 8 am over chocolate chip pancakes. We had an awesome day visiting family and telling them in person before heading to the beach for memorial day weekend.

I got a mid-/late afternoon proposal, but still had plenty of day light to burn to enjoy the newly engaged bliss and share the news with friends and family.

Huh, never thought of that before! Mr. G proposed around midnight, we went home and knocked out but it kinda worked because we were in Tokyo so it was a decent time to call home :)

My partner proposed to me in the morning for exactly the same reasons — to get it out of the way! He had planned a night out for us, and did not want to do the proposal publicly over dinner, he felt (and I agree) that it was more meaningful and comfortable done in the privacy of his dads back yard :)

I got a late morning/early afternoon proposal! We woke up on the last day of winter and it was so beautiful out that we decided to go on a hike. He wasn’t even sure until that day when or how he wanted to propose, but he said that day just felt right to him and he brought the ring along just in case the moment presented itself. I’m so happy to say that the moment indeed was perfect and he popped the question on the tallest inland mountain in Maine overlooking the ocean. It was perfect and SO us!!!! We loved having the rest of the day to celebrate!

My FH also did a morning proposal Christmas morning. We were walking along the beach enjoying coffee before going to his family’s house. So glad I had the whole day to enjoy it and call my family and our friends!
