Mrs. Canary's Picture
Mrs. Canary, New York Age and Occupation: 24, Marketing Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Journalist/Editor Engagement Date: February 16, 2007 Wedding Date: July, 2008 Blogging Since: October 19, 2007 Venue: Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers About Me: I'm a born and raised New Yorker who loves all things crafty and artsy, food (cheese and dessert!), magazines, and shoes. I'm a power shopper always on the lookout for good deals or great quality-- sometimes I'm lucky and I find both! I love to dance and "shake what my momma gave me" but can also really enjoy a quiet night in with Mr. Canary and a good episode of Seinfeld or curl up with a good book.
About Mrs. Canary

All photos courtesy of the amazing Angelica Glass, unless otherwise noted. Please note that the photos have only been color-corrected and not fully retouched.

While we, with our parents and bridal party, were waiting behind the scenes to make our grand entrance, the guests were welcomed into the dining room (which had been transformed from our ceremony space) to find their seats for dinner.

One of the many reasons we loved having our wedding at Pier Sixty was the way the dining room was “unveiled” for the guests. The dining area was separated from the cocktail area by large, paneled, garage-like doors. While our guests were chowing down on hors d’oeuvres, the Pier Sixty team and our floral team, Atlas Floral Decorator was busy turning the room. When the room was ready, the doors slowly lifted up and we could see everyone just pausing and watching in anticipation as the room appeared in all its perfection…

Individual votives hung over the dance floor, so it seemed as if it was lit up by tiny blazing stars.

Our menus (one side was English and the other side was in Chinese) which were painstakingly printed by Mr. Canary and me.

We also printed our own table numbers with the help of our invitation designers who created the borders in template format for us.

Centerpieces contained flowers in shades of pinks and yellows. Tables around the perimeter of the room were flanked by tall branched centerpieces, while tables closer to the center of the room had low arrangements or floating votives.

Our beautiful cake topper commissioned by Lauren Alane. Fun trivia: ours was the first cake topper she ever made. Lauren was a dream to work with and we were so lucky to have one of her pieces commemorate our day now that they’re so hard to get a hold of!

Our cake was baked by the in-house pastry chef and was absolutely delicious! We opted for an off-the-menu flavor: red velvet with cream cheese frosting!

We opted for a long head table that was lined with a variety of arrangements in our color scheme and provided a beautiful visual focal point for the room.

The room is fully enclosed by glass, so to add to the starlit effect, votives were placed along the edges of the windows so that the candlelight also reflected off the night skyline view.

The room which had been fully transformed! We were amazed with how quickly our florists and the staff worked to turn the giant cavernous room into a modern, twinkling, and intimate space. After everyone was seated, it was time for the introductions.

Thanks everyone!

@Kerri: Our florist sourced everything for us, but I think they used vendors like Jamali Garden for vessels. I found similar pedestal glass vases on their site:
