Mrs. Canary's Picture
Mrs. Canary, New York Age and Occupation: 24, Marketing Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Journalist/Editor Engagement Date: February 16, 2007 Wedding Date: July, 2008 Blogging Since: October 19, 2007 Venue: Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers About Me: I'm a born and raised New Yorker who loves all things crafty and artsy, food (cheese and dessert!), magazines, and shoes. I'm a power shopper always on the lookout for good deals or great quality-- sometimes I'm lucky and I find both! I love to dance and "shake what my momma gave me" but can also really enjoy a quiet night in with Mr. Canary and a good episode of Seinfeld or curl up with a good book.
About Mrs. Canary

All photos courtesy of the amazing Angelica Glass, unless otherwise noted. Please note that the photos have only been color-corrected and not fully retouched.

Early on in our planning, we decided we wanted a photo booth but didn’t want to invest in a real photobooth. Lucky for us, our fantastic photographer, Angelica Glass, was able to set up a camera and the second shooter to capture photobooth-esque images. Thus, our faux-to booth was born! Our florist had set up tall and dramatic curtains to warm up a long hallway and we used that as a backdrop. We didn’t have the foresight to get props, but the results were pretty fun and candid!

Right before the photobooth was set up, I went upstairs to change into a traditional qipao that I had custom-made in Shanghai. We wanted to incorporate the gown in there somehow and share some of my culture with guests who were not at the tea ceremony. After I changed, Stacy, my wonderful hair stylist extraordinaire put my hair up in to a nice but dressy ponytail so I could dance and romp without worrying about messing up my hair.

The Brothers Canary and me in my qipao. The front has an gold embroidered phoenix motif.

And here are some our favorite photobooth images from the day:

These images are from our final album layout. I love how Angelica compiled them!

After multiple turns at the booth, Mr. Canary and I were antsy to get down on the dance floor. But before I could do that, I had to get out of my dance-restrictive qipao, so I changed into another custom-made silk-satin and chiffon gown by Chrissy Wai-Ching. There’s nothing I love more than dancing and with an amazing DJ, we really didn’t want to miss out! Everyone was on the floor for the rest of the evening and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

And then it was the moment I’d been waiting for all throughout dinner… the cake cutting. If you know me well, you’d know how much I insanely love cake. I think it’s years of deprivation as a child. Nothing makes me happier than cake and our wedding cake did not disappoint!

I threatened Mr. Canary that if he put cake on my face he’d never live it down. Lucky for him, there was no cake smashing.

The evening was drawing to a close and some of our older guests were ready to go home, but before they did, Mr. Canary and I wanted to thank everyone and toast our parents who had put in so much hard work and time into our wedding.

Thanking both sets of the most supportive and loving parents in the world!

We caught a second wind of dancing and then before we knew it…the wedding was over. They’re right about time flying when you’re having fun. Although it was a Sunday night, most of our friends stayed on until about midnight.

But don’t worry, after the wedding, we took the party to a local pub (did I ever tell you how hard it was to find a bar open on Sunday night in New York?) and proceeded to party ’til the wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately the only photos from that event are going to be held in the vault for various reasons!

Next up: miscellaneous details and our day-after photo shoot with Angelica Glass.

i love your qipao!!! i had a long blue one and a short maroon one made when we were in Kunming and FH had a chinese suit made with an embroidered dragon wrapping a leg. the little old lady who did it was pissed because he’s 6′5″! though i don’t think we’ll break them out since mine definitely aren’t wedding material, it’s always awesome to see a beautiful bride break one out!

i love your faux-to booth too… did the guests get a copy of the pictures or did you just include them with your thank you cards or something?
